Paper plate crafts are inexpensive, flexible activities that can be adapted for different ages, themes, and learning goals.

Most projects use paper plates, washable paint or markers, glue, child-safe scissors, and construction paper. Yarn, craft sticks, tissue paper, and googly eyes are useful optional extras.

These crafts can support fine-motor skills, color and shape recognition, counting, letter practice, storytelling, and following step-by-step directions.

Precut difficult shapes, offer washable supplies, and keep the number of steps small. Older children can cut their own pieces and add more detailed decorations.

  1. Hi Kelli, these are nice ideas, and very colorful, at that! You did not mention how to make them, though. Can you share some ideas about which materials to use, how to make them, and which age group this activity is most ideal for? I am planning to do this with my nephew, but have zero idea how to start as I am not really a crafts person…but badly want to learn. Help!

    Thank you! 🙂

  2. Hi Kelli,
Thanks for this these craft ideas! We have a ton of paper plates left over from a recent party, and instead of storing them, I think my daughter and I will get to crafting! I especially love that they’re educational. Thanks again for the great ideas.
