Create a movie plot of their own
Start by asking them to consider the genre they love most—will it be a thrilling adventure, a hilarious comedy, or maybe a heartwarming drama? Then, they can brainstorm characters, settings, and conflicts to create their unique cinematic universe.
Children can explore ideas, solve narrative problems, and develop characters with depth and personality by allowing their imaginations to run wild. Whether they map their ideas out on paper, act them out, or even storyboard their vision, this activity fosters creativity and builds skills like collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Who knows? You might just inspire the next great filmmaker in the process!
Make a summer bucket list
Creating a summer bucket list with your kids is a fun and engaging way to make the most of the season while fostering creativity and excitement. Sit together as a family to brainstorm all the activities, adventures, and experiences they want to try before summer ends.
The possibilities are endless, whether it’s a backyard camping night, a visit to the zoo, making homemade popsicles, or building the ultimate sandcastle at the beach. Not only does this help fill the calendar with activities everyone can look forward to, but it also empowers your kids to share their ideas and actively plan their summer fun.
Plus, ticking items off the list adds a sense of achievement they’ll treasure long after summer!
Handy for Backyard Play
Make a dandelion crown to wear
You only need a patch of dandelions and a little patience to weave them together. Start by picking dandelions with slightly longer stems, making them easier to twist and secure. Show the kids how to link the flowers by wrapping one stem around the other, creating a chain that quickly forms a crown.
You can chat about how plants grow or share stories about dandelions being wished and waiting to be blown. Once the crown is complete, watch their faces light up as they wear their handmade masterpiece.
It’s a super fun way to spend an afternoon, combining creativity, nature, and memories that will last a lifetime.
