Pumpkin Spice Chex Mix Snack Recipe
This Pumpkin Spice Chex Mix is three kinds of Chex and salty pecans tossed in butter, brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice. Ten minutes on the stove, ten minutes to cool, and you have a bowl of fall that disappears faster than you made it.
When my boys were little, I was not above feeding them to keep them busy on a long car ride. This was one of the snacks that worked, and it is still one of my favorite easy pumpkin recipes.

Below you will find what goes in it and what you can swap, a few tips so the sugar does not scorch, easy variations, and how to store it. The recipe card is at the bottom.

Ingredients and Swaps
- Chex cereal: I use Cinnamon, Wheat and Honey Nut Chex for a mix of flavors. Any combination of Chex works, including plain Rice or Corn Chex.
- Pecans: the salty crunch against the sweet cereal is the whole point. Walnuts or almonds work too.
- Butter: real butter. It carries the spice and helps everything crisp up.
- Brown sugar: light or dark both work. Dark gives it a deeper, more caramel flavor.
- Pumpkin pie spice: store-bought is fine, or mix your own from cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves. Our copycat HelloFresh fall spice blend works here too.
Tips for the Best Pumpkin Spice Chex Mix
- Keep the heat at medium and stir the butter and brown sugar the whole time. Brown sugar goes from melted to scorched fast.
- Use your biggest saucepan or a pot so there is room to toss the cereal without crushing it.
- Stir gently but keep going until every piece is coated.
- Spread it in a single layer on wax paper to cool. Piled up, it clumps together.
- Let it cool completely before you store it, or it gets soft.

Variations
- Candy corn: stir in a cup of candy corn after it cools for a Halloween version.
- Chocolate: add M&Ms or chocolate chips once it is completely cool so they do not melt.
- White chocolate drizzle: melt white chocolate and drizzle it over the cooled mix, then let it set.
- Nut-free: skip the pecans and use mini pretzels for the salty crunch.

How to Store Pumpkin Spice Chex Mix
Keep it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. It is a good one to make ahead for a party, a classroom treat or a fall road trip. Pack it in small bags or jars and it doubles as an easy neighbor gift.
