I don’t know about you, but we are EXCITED about summer around here! Even though we haven’t made it to the beautiful Erie Presque Isle beach just yet, we have taken a walk along the shore by our house and collected some sea glass. I had some sand stashed away from our popped punching bag, so when my 3 year old Chipmunk asked if we could do a sand project, I knew just what to do! We got out our beach stamps and away we went! Want to follow along?
What You Need:
- Containers to split up sand among kids (optional)
- Ocean stamps (optional) or Ocean Stickers
- Paint brushes
- Blue construction paper
What You Do:
To begin, we did some stamping with our ocean creature stamps. You can grab your own set at Oriental Trading or you can use ocean stickers instead. You can even have the kids draw ocean creatures if they’d like. My crew is a little too young to draw animals, so we stuck with the stamps. 🙂
Stamp! Stamping! Stamp!
After we had a few animals in place, we got started with the sand!
To begin, I had the girls spread some liquid glue across the bottom of the paper. That would be the shore line and the rest would be the ocean.
After the glue was in place, the kids took a bit of sand and sprinkled it across the bottom, patting it down as they went along.
Sprinkle. Pat. Sprinkle. Pat.
Of course, after awhile, they forgot about the glue part and just starting dumping sand all over their paper. It was fun while it lasted and when they got up to play in the yard, I just dumped the sand back in the container, revealing this work of art:
I wish I would’ve taken a picture of the page when it was covered in sand, but I’m sure you can use your imagination a bit!
