Some of my favorite essential oils are ylang ylang and tea tree but I also love to blend essential oils and create new scents. As long as you’re safe, you can make some really cool mixes!

How to Blend Essential Oils

Essential oils are extracted from plants, fruit, flowers, herbs, and spices. Cheaper essential oils available on the market are usually not pure and are sometimes diluted with petrochemical solvents or other ingredients that may aggravate the skin or scalp.

Always use organic essential oils that are extracted from natural, raw ingredients for optimum benefits.

Blending Essential Oils

Essential oils can be used alone, blended together or blended with a carrier oil such as cold-pressed grape seed, olive, or jojoba oil. Generally, a maximum of four complimentary oils can be blended together to create a unique fragrance.

It’s also smart to use glass bottles as the storage as well.

Using Essential Oils Safely

Aromatherapy is generally a safe form of home treatment and blending the different oils together to find a unique blend can be fascinating. However, the following guidelines should be followed when blending aromatherapy oils:

  • Do not take essential oils internally,
  • Never put essential oils in the eyes or around the eyes,
  • Keep oils out of reach of children,
  • Not all essential oils can be applied directly to the skin in an undiluted form,
  • Care should be taken when pregnant and a qualified practitioner should be consulted for advice in this case,
  • Don’t treat babies or small children with essential oils or blends before consulting with a practitioner,
  • If an individual has severe or persistent health problems or allergies or is taking medicines or homeopathic remedies consult a professional before blending or using essential oils.

How to Use Aromatherapy Oils

Aromatherapy techniques include using essential oils in a relaxing massage. Aromatherapy massage oils can lift the spirit, enhance mood, or ease pain and tension.

Aromatic baths are a simple way to use essential oils at home. Five to ten drops of essential oil added to bathwater can provide a wonderfully relaxing way of de-stressing, treating skin disorders, and enhancing moods.

Creams, lotions, shampoos, and gels can be made by adding essential oils to unscented, chemical-free creams/lotions. A hair rinse can be made by adding a few drops of essential oil to a jug of water.

Try an essential oil diffuser

There are many methods to diffuse the scent, but usually, a small clay pot diffuser contains an opening for adding eight to 10 drops of essential oils. This is a natural way to scent a room and also helps with breathing difficulties and mood enhancement.
