As many know, I am moved into a new home that is almost 4 times the size of my old home. I am super excited to play and decorate (and cook), but decorating is not something that comes naturally to me. Seriously, decorating is fun but not easy. I am constantly scouring Pinterest and decor websites to find my “style” and get inspiration.
I need a consult with Joanna Gaines, for real! She really seems to nail people’s style. I need her to talk with me and figure out my style. LOL!
Anyway, in addition to my review of the Decorate: 1,000 Design Ideas for Every Room in your Home book below, I have gathered some of my favorite ideas in this blog post. I hope you find some things that strike your fancy. 🙂
Design Ideas for Every Room:
One thing that I have learned over years of doing it all wrong is that if your rooms flow into each other, they should be similar. This means that if your kitchen, dining room, and living room all flow together they should match or coordinate. This keeps the home feeling clean and keeps it from looking garish.
You also need certain elements to flow throughout the entire home to make it feel cohesive, instead of like bunches of hotel rooms squeezed together. Maybe you keep the same baseboards look or add certain hardware into every room.
Personally, I like to have a certain color splashed into all of our shared living spaces.
In addition to having all 5200 square feet seem like one place, it is a fun element of surprise to find a splash of teal in the Man Cave! I also change this main color out for each season or main event.
Some of my decor accent colors or themes:
- Powder Blue
- Aqua or Teal
- Spring Green
- Sterling Silver
- Hoot Owls
- DIY Pottery Barn looks
