Diggerland Review (NYC)

Sharing is caring!

Diggerland USA is a construction themed adventure park where children and their families drive, ride, and operate heavy machinery in a safe, family-friendly environment. Located in West Berlin, NJ, the facility covers 14 acres and features over 23 attractions. Diggerland USA opened on June 14th, 2014.

My impressions:

Upon first entry into the park, it was smaller than I had imagined it to be, but for the targeted age range it is actually a perfect size. We brought my 4 year old and 2 year old and spent a few hours there as we went on machines multiple times.

We started at the mini land rover driving area where my daughter delighted in being able to drive by herself!

Following, we checked out the mini-diggers. Each piece of machinery is available for you or your child to operate. Seriously, sometimes my husband and I were wondering who was having more fun- us or the kids! Everyone loved the freedom of being able to operate and test out the machinery. All in all, I found it to be perfect for my 4 year old who really got the most out of the park, but I could certainly see older children enjoying it as well.

My tips:

Do take note the height restrictions here. Some children are able to go on machinery alone, others with an adult if below the height requirement, and some attractions they must meet the height level no matter what. My daughter was able to try everything she wanted both without and with an adult, but do check it out and measure your child beforehand so that you or he or she will not be disappointed!

Pack your own lunch. Outside food is not allowed, but your self-scanable wristband allows you to exit and re-enter the park. There are no picnic grounds in the parking lot, so be prepared to eat in your car.  From an allergy Mom perspective, I was a bit put off by the fact that I was told my son had to have a doctor’s note allowing him to bring outside food in. Seriously, with two anaphylactic conditions, I worry about carrying around his Epi-Pens, not a doctor’s note! We did eat at the snack bar where canola oil is used for frying. However, fellow peanut-allergic parents and children attending take note- they do serve Reese’s peanut butter cup treats (wrapped) and two different types of ice cream bars and cones with peanuts on top (also wrapped).

Try to go at an off-peak time. Easier said than done sometimes I know, but when we went my kids didn’t have to wait long for anything, but I could see wait times potentially increasing during the peak times.

All in all:

This park was well worth the trip out. We all learned quite a bit about the machinery and what each one can do and how it functions. We enjoyed being able to independently control each one and appreciated the added bonus of having our children “lap-sit” in order to enjoy everything. We will be back!
