Question 1

What are the best Christmas movies for kids?

Accepted Answer

For small children, start with A Charlie Brown Christmas or the 1966 Grinch special, because both are under half an hour. For a family watching together, The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Polar Express are the two that hold the widest age range. For older children, Elf and A Christmas Story are the ones they will quote back to you.

Question 2

What Christmas movies are good for toddlers and preschoolers?

Accepted Answer

Keep it short and keep it familiar. Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas and Mickey’s Christmas Carol all run under an hour, and the first three are simple enough that a two or three year old can follow them.

Question 3

Which Christmas movies should I check before letting younger kids watch?

Accepted Answer

A Christmas Story has more mild language than people remember, and the leg lamp gag surprises some parents. Home Alone is harder slapstick than its reputation suggests. The Nightmare Before Christmas is genuinely spooky in places. All three are fine for older children and worth previewing for little ones.
