Thanksgiving Handwriting Practice for Preschool (Free Worksheet)
This Thanksgiving handwriting practice page is a prewriting worksheet for preschool and kindergarten. Kids trace dotted lines from one Thanksgiving picture to the next: straight lines, zigzags and curves. It is the warm-up before letters.
Need more? I have a whole pile of Thanksgiving worksheets for kids.

Print one page a week through November, or cut it into strips and hand out one line at a time so it does not look like a lot. For more ideas, see my homeschooling preschool worksheets.
What Prewriting Practice Teaches
Before kids can write letters, they need to control a pencil along a line. Every letter is made of straight lines, slants and curves, and tracing those shapes builds the hand strength and control that letters need. It also gets them used to starting on the left and moving right.
What It Includes
Dotted tracing lines that connect Thanksgiving pictures, with straight, zigzag and curved paths. It is one free page, and it works with a pencil, crayon or marker.

How to Use It
- Slide it in a sleeve: put the page in a dry-erase pocket and use it again and again.
- Start big: let them trace the line with a finger first, then a crayon, then a pencil.
- Short and done: one or two lines at a time is plenty for a three year old.
- Talk it through: “Start at the pilgrim, go to the corn.” Following directions is half the lesson.

Tips for Better Pencil Grip
- Use short crayons or golf pencils. Small tools push little fingers into a pinch grip without you saying a word.
- Aim for a tripod grip: pencil resting on the middle finger, held by the thumb and pointer.
- Work on a slanted surface, like a binder turned sideways. It puts the wrist in a better spot.
- Strong hands write better. Play dough, tongs and clothespins all count as handwriting practice.
Thanksgiving Cutting Practice is another good one for fine motor skills.

More Thanksgiving Fun
- Read a Thanksgiving book together, like Pete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving, and trace the worksheet after.
- Have them “write” a Thanksgiving word list. Scribbles count at this age.
- Go on a Thanksgiving scavenger hunt around the house and draw what they find.
