Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Add the cupcake liners to the cupcake pan.
Mix the egg whites, soda, and oil with a mixer on medium.
Gradually fold in the cake mix until all is moist
Add 1/2-3/4 of the jello and a few drops of food coloring and mix well. (some people like more or less of the grape flavoring from the jello so add in what you prefer)
Pour the batter into the liners 2/3 full. Put in the oven and bake for 18-20 minutes. Let the cupcakes cool.
Frosting:
Use a mixer and cream the butter for 2 minutes until fluffy.
Add the vanilla and salt
Mix in the rest of the jello.
Add the half and half and soda in a bowl together and mix. (must be a different bowl!)
In the butter mixture bowl, add the powdered sugar 1 cup at a time and pour in some of the soda mixture after each cup. Stir. Mix until creamy but don't overmix.
Add food coloring if you'd like. Pour the mixture into the piping bag and frost the cupcakes. Add sanding sugar and straw.
