We were given these Teach My sets to review in exchange for an honest blog review. That in no way shaped our opinion of these sets.
The sets we were given are actually add-ons to the Teach My Baby Learning Kit. This kit is a non-technology based kit that helps teach your baby the basics. “This kit is divided into four sections to teach babies-First Words, First Numbers, Self and Sound & Touch.” The kit gives your child the vast majority of the hands on activities they need to learn a long list of basics.
Teach My Baby Animal Babies was the first one Zeva wanted to review because she came out of the womb loving animals. (She got that naturally from both my mom and I.) She spent maybe five minutes on it before she was ready to grab the next one. My boys were of the same opinion. Now to the credit of this product, it is designed for babies! If I had the chance to give it to Zeva when she was 6 months old like it was made for then I feel pretty confident she would have enjoyed it a lot more.
Since she wasn’t overly thrilled with the first animal set she decided to give the Teach My Preschooler the Solar System set a try. Now this one caught the attention of EVERYONE! This kit comes complete with a puzzle, a poster, board book, flashcards, and the teaching guide and a bag to hold it all in. This set is really designed for 3 years old and older.
This by far was our favorite one of these sets! That could have a lot to do with the fact that we are all astronomy nuts. However, I do believe it also has to do with the quality of this set too. The images are really nice. The puzzle captures the kid’s attention. The little planets come out and you can use the flashcards to help your child learn the names of them. Zeva caught on real quick to the different planets. She really surprised me with her quick grasp of learning their names and which ones went where. My boys loved dipping their fingers into this one. Del couldn’t resist coming in and adding his two cents about the different planets when he heard me reading the book to the kids. It was just a nice way to have the whole family interacting together during what was really a learning experience. Yet, it was FUN! As you can see from the collage.
After a long stretch of playing with the solar system one, Zeva finally decided to give the Teach My Toddler Continents and Animals set a try (I wouldn’t let her touch the time one yet.) This set was created for 18 months and older. Considering Zeva will be 3 in December I figured it would be another good set for her try. This Momma was right. She devoured it. She enjoyed the book A LOT. She even attempted to read it to me even though she’s not talking yet. She was hands on with everything concerning this kit. It is recommended that your toddler uses this set for 20 minutes a day, and that is easy to do when there are so many ways to change up how you use it.
The last but not least set by any means is the Teach My Preschooler the Time set. I made Zeva wait for this one for a bit, and you can tell from the picture that she was begging for it. This set is recommended for 3 years and older WITH Adult Supervision Recommended. I stressed that because this is not a set that you can just leave with your child and let them go. The clock piece does actually come put together, but one rough touch and it comes a part and doesn’t snap back into place. The other pieces are easy to get lost with little hands. This set comes with basically everything you need to teach your child how to tell time. It comes with a book, teaching clock, wipe-off crayons, digital time maker, and of course, the teaching guide and storage bag. I’m very old school when it comes to teaching time. I give my child a watch and we practice telling time with it. Coming from a parent’s perspective on this product, I wasn’t overly thrilled with it.
However, my kids were. Jimmy LOVED being able to take this set and “teaching” his siblings how to tell time with it. Considering, my mother-in-law taught him in a very similar way, I can understand his excitement over this set. (Only thing is she didn’t have this neat set to help her.) He had them creating all kinds of different times of the day. He was even slick about it and had them answer questions about what time of the day we normally did certain activities. In this case, I’d have to say if you have an older sibling who likes to teach their little siblings things then, by all means get it.
