Super Simple Flag Craft

Sharing is caring!

The fourth of July is my husband’s all time favorite holiday.  I don’t know if it’s the abundance of hamburgers or the fireworks that really take it over the top, but the guy sure does get excited about Independence Day!  In honor of his enthusiasm, we decided to do a few patriotic crafts this month.    For today, we’ve got a super simple flag craft that even the littlest hands can master.  Of course, older kids can try it too — just have them do more of the prep more like cutting out the stripes to up the difficulty factor a bit.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White construction paper
  • Blue construction paper
  • Red construction paper
  • Star stickers
  • Glue, Scissors (or paper cutter)
Here’s what you do:
If you’re working with little ones, cut some red stripes out of the construction paper.  I made mine about 1/2 an inch and that seemed to be a good length.  If you have a paper cutter like mine, just slide the paper to the edge of the cutter and slice away.  This will give you a good width.
Getting the stripes ready.
If you have older kids, they can do this part themselves.
Next, give your child a glue stick and show them how to place the stripes. I did a few examples stripes on my paper to give my two year old an idea of what to do.  If you have older kids, you could just show them the American flag and let them figure out the placement themselves.
She got the hang of it pretty quick!
This little girl loves using the glue stick, so she was thrilled about this craft!
Once all the stripes are “in place”, we cut a little blue square out and glued it in the corner.
Now comes the fun part: Stickers!  I just used the standard 4 color star stickers.
You can find them in Walmart or any office supply store.
Pulling those stickers off is great for fine motor skills!
Here a star!
There a star!
Everywhere a star, star!
Finished!
Decorating the fridge with patriotic style!!
