Miller Manor: Renovation Day One

Sharing is caring!

After one full day of working on Miller Manor, we have new doors, some windows open, a well dug, and all the bathtubs GONE!  It was a long and exhausting day and I don’t really have a ton to say about it, but it has been a week or so and I wanted to update you on how things are going.  You know, with pictures! 🙂

home renovation

See those GORGEOUS lanterns beside the door?  Oh my word!  They are VERY pretty.  I am planning to try to take them down today and see if I can scrub them down and then clean them back up.  I think we are planning to go with a solid white house and I think they would be very pretty black and silver.  What do you think?  I would love opinions on them. 🙂

Demolition

As you can see in the picture above (and the picture below) there has been a ton of tearing up happening in Miller Manor in just one day!  At this rate, we are going to have to get our dumpster emptied in a week!!  I think they are going to start working on the roof holes on day two and we have a few guys coming out.

Opening the doors and windows

Looks like they did a TON in day one, doesn’t it?  We are heading back for day two to talk with the Cabinet guy and I am pretty excited about that.  There are bit and pieces of things that I really like.  I spent some time at Home Depot (as that is currently my favorite home improvement store – more on that LATER!)  Anyway, I spent some time at Home Depot yesterday walking through their demo kitchens opening drawers and taking pictures of things I like.  This way, when I speak to my cabinet guy today, I can tell him exactly what I like.  You can also see some of my thoughts and ideas on my New Kitchen Pinterest Board (ok, so it is actually my husband’s board, but I am a contributor to it LOL!):-)

Oh Kelli! The house is going to be amazing, but I can't even believe the work you have ahead of you while you juggle everything else in your life. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. I love total house rehabs. I did it once. I would like to do it again if I ever find a house that is worth the effort.

Thanks! We are super excited! I nailed down what my kitchen design is going to be on Friday and need to get a post about it written up. :-) If you go to my "homemaking" tab and then "diy" you can keep up with Miller Manor!

Yeah, we weren't able to save them so we bought new ones - very VERY similar ones and they are black :-)

I have literally gone through Lowe's and taken pictures of their bathroom layouts and kitchen layouts because I love to dream of things that we can do to our house. (I still have ALL of those images.) I keep hoping to get my kitchen and bathroom remodeled. If I had a Home Depot closer to me (it's 45 minutes away) I would probably visit it a lot too.

A white house is always gorgeous. Silver is going to look good too. Looks like you have a lot work ahead of you, but I'm sure you're having fun too.

So, the electrical isn't any good in the lights :-( But, I was able to keep the globe parts and am going to try to incorporate it into my decor somehow. Thoughts?

If you are going with an all white house I would definitely paint the lights black! I think silver would blend in too much with the rest of the house.

I am going to love this series!

There are some gold looking parts and I am hoping to make them brushed nickle to match the knobs and the white stuff all black. We shall see :-)
