Invigorating Peppermint Soap Recipe Using Essential Oils

Sharing is caring!

There are some hardcore soap-making recipes out there that use real lye. These old-fashioned soap recipes are great, but they are definitely a step beyond my DIY skills.

Anything that requires gloves, a mask, and safety goggles is rather intimating for me. However, I have always wanted to try making soap scented with essential oils.

I love those scented soaps sold at boutiques and antique shops, but I certainly don’t want to spend $14 on a single bar of soap. This peppermint soap recipe that I found is easy to make and smells amazing.

It turns out, there is a way to have lovely smelling, high-end soap without having to wear safety goggles. You can purchase pre-prepared soap base that you can use to add any scent and coloring you like! I’ll be using these soap bases to make all kinds of scented soap for myself and friends. Handmade soap made this way makes an excellent gift!

This easy soap recipe will soon become a favorite for gifts and to save money on your own fancy soap.

Ingredients

Heat your soap base on low heat. You can do this on the stove or in a crock pot. The soap cleans right up when you are done, but you might not want to make it in your favorite pan in case there is a soapy taste left behind.

When the soap is melted, add 10 drops of peppermint, 10 drops of wintergreen, and 5 drops of vanilla essential oils. Depending on how much soap you are making, you may need to add more oil to the mix.

Stir the oils into the soap and add a few drops of soap dye to your melted soap (or leave it undyed for a more natural look).

Pour the soap into the molds and tap the molds gently on a flat surface to remove any air bubbles.

Let the soap dry in the molds overnight before popping the soap out of the molds.

Store your new soap bars in paper bags. Keep for yourself or give as a gift!

I work with a pound, but I intentionally left off the amount because it really doesn't matter as long as you keep the oils to the right amount to keep it from getting "greasy" looking.
