Nevada has a desert climate that gets very hot and very cold in certain months of the year. It’s also covered by the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and is known as The Silver State. It became the 36th state in 1864 with the capital of Carson City. Enjoy these fun facts and crafts for kids.

Fact One: Hoover Dam offers guided tours and a museum of artifacts of the construction and its workers

Hoover Dam, the largest single public works project in the history of the United States, contains enough concrete to pave a two-lane highway from San Francisco to New York. The dam has been seen in popular movies such as “Viva Las Vegas” and “Fools Rush In.”

Also, The hard hats that we see construction workers wearing today were invented in 1933 for the workers on Hoover Dam.

Fact Three: Nevada has more mountain ranges than any other state. 

The highest point of these mountain ranges is 13,145 feet at the top of Boundary Peak near the west-central border of Nevada.
