As a mom I feel it’s important to teach our children to be creative and think outside of the box.I am always on the lookout for different ways to encourage this thinking. Recently I had a chance to try Zometool. I have to admit that I tried it out before letting my son play with it, and I loved it!
I had the chance to try the System Kit: Creator 1. It included 186 struts and 60 nodes that all fit in a carrying case. Have you ever heard the saying “no two snowflakes are alike”? That’s what this reminds me of. You can build your own snowflake, house, ball, or whatever else you can imagine! I started off simple and made a cube. If you or your child don’t know where to start it comes with some step by step directions. This is great for ages six and up. Now, you may know kids (or boys for that matter) that can be rough on toys. I actually tried bending one of the struts to see if it would break and it didn’t. One day I was trying to do some housework, but my son was bouncing off the wall, I set him on the kitchen floor with the Zometool. He played for two hours non-stop with it. About every 10 minutes I heard “Mom, look what I made now!” I loved the excitement in his face as he was playing with it. I loved the fact that he was using his imagination and was coming up with new figures/creations to make.
My overall impression of Zometool is great. It encourages kids to use their imagination. It’s simple to use. It’s sturdy. Kids and adults both enjoy playing with Zometool. I am not a big fan of stuff being all over the place, so I love the fact that it’s in a carrying case!!
