How To Organize Small Spaces #WiseOrganize

Sharing is caring!

How do you go about finding ways to organize small spaces?  Creative thinking and  multi – purpose storage solutions is a great way to Be Wise…(and)Get Organized!

Organizing small spaces using dual purpose storage.
When you can’t make your space larger, you have to make sure that the things you  have in your space,  are working to your best advantage. Let’s go through the rooms in your house, and come up with some great solutions.

  • Kitchen:  Nesting items are a perfect example.  Bowls are the first thing that come to mind, but what about pots and pans? Using hooks inside cabinets, sliding drawers (so you can get to those items in the very back), and overhead space is often forgotten.
  • Living Room: You might think that ottomans are just to prop your feet up on, but you can find them in all shapes and sizes, that have removable lids, so that you can store things in them. The same goes for “coffee tables”.  Use trunks for end tables, and  if there is clearance under your sofa(s) slide decorative storage boxes under them.
  • Bedrooms: Increase closet space buy utilizing additional shelving, and hooks on insides of closet doors.  Use risers to raise beds, so that more storage can fit beneath.  High shelving can run all around the room, a foot or two below the ceiling.  Use those shelves to hold decorative boxes to store out of season shoes and accessories, memorabilia and smaller items that are used less frequently.
  • Bathrooms: Free standing over the toilet units are great for towels,  extra toilet paper and toiletries.  Use double or triple tiered lazy susans to create extra space on counter tops.  Hooks and over the door racks are readily available and department stores and online.
  • Garage: Wall space is your friend.  Hooks, track units, and shelving can hold an enormous amount of items.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

Don’t limit storage use for just the original intended purpose.  In my office (or as my grandson, Corey, calls it – my studio), I use an over the door shoe organizer to store extra office and craft/scrapbooking supplies. You could also use the same organizer in your stockitpockets-300px-92512kitchen pantry to hold small cans, and  packets of gravy and sauce mixes.  Hang one on the door or on your shower curtain rod in your bathroom, to hold brushes, lotions, shower gels etc.  In the garage they can hold small tools, gardening shoes, cans of spray paint…you get the picture. And don’t forget those fantastic Stock-It-Pockets, that hold so much more than your average over the door hanging organizers!

Over the Door Storage

Some things are quite clear cut.  If you live in a teeny tiny apartment, you can’t very well have a grand piano (unless you’re going to sleep on it and store all your belongings under it – BUT – you can find clever ways to store what you need. Organizing small spaces is only limited to your imagination.  What ways have you found to organize a small space in your home?  We would love for you to leave a comment to let us know.  Do you have a dual purpose storage solution that would help our readers?  3 Boys And A Dog, would be thrilled to hear about them.  Let’s work together so that we can all Be Wise…(and)Get Organized!

Making good use of every available space makes a huge difference if you have limited storage space. The Stock It Pockets are a great idea. I can think of a ton of things I could store in these!

Great ideas. I love using clear containers so I can easily see whats inside. Decorative glass jars are one of my favorite things to use because they look pretty and are functional.
