Maryland is known for its proximity to the Chesapeake Bay, the local blue crabs, and it’s where the national anthem was first written.

Steamed Crabs

Crabs steamed or boiled are famous in Maryland. The delicious meat is then dipped in clarified or melted butter. 

2. Crab Cakes

Fresh crab is used to make crab patties that are then fried. They are delicious as an appetizer and with a dipping sauce. 

Pit Beef 

This famous Maryland food is made with a large beef shoulder covered with a dry rub and then grilled. Then it’s cut into deli-style slices, piled on a bun with white onions, horseradish, and mayonnaise. 

4. Berger Cookies 

Soft and cake-like cookies are covered with chocolate icing on one side. 

5. Smith Island Cake

 This state dessert is a cake made with around 10 very thin layers of yellow cake filled and topped with chocolate fudge icing.  

Cream of Crab Soup 

This thick and creamy crab soup is made with lump crab, lemon, Old Bay seasoning, butter, half and half, salt, and pepper.

7. Stuffed Ham 

This famous Maryland food is a traditional Thanksgiving dish in southern Maryland. A large ham is stuffed with spiced greens and baked. 

8. Oysters

Fresh oysters from the coast are one of Maryland’s most popular dishes. They can be grilled, sauteed, or baked. 

Rockfish

This flaky white fish is often cooked whole and can be baked, steamed, poached, or sauteed. These recipes give you some different varieties of flavors for these famous Maryland fish. 

10. Caramel Creams (Cow Tails) 

These caramel candies are filled with a cream filling and are a classic Maryland treat.
