The other day, we got the book Down at the Dino Wash Deluxe in the mail and the kids went crazy for it!
The book is about a little boy who runs a dino-wash in the city. One day T.Rex comes in for a wash and the little boy has to face his fears and serve his customers! We read the book at least four times before the night was through.
Of course, washing dinosaurs would be the perfect activity to go with this book, and we just so happen to have a GIANT collection of dinosaurs in the play room! I wanted to make sure the “dirt” was really a job to get off, so I mixed up some flour and water along with some brown paint and slapped it on those dinos!
Before it got mixed, it kind of looked like ice cream and chocolate, which was ironic, since I was also in the process of making hot fudge!
All covered in mud! I put the dinosaurs on newspaper and let the “mud” dry overnight. It probably sat for about 8 hours and there were still a few gooey spots in the morning, so this is a plan ahead activity!
Supplies are ready! I got a bucket of soapy water, a few little people wearing rain jackets, and some tiny washclothes. I also found an old electric toothbrush I no longer used. Perfect for the Dino Wash Deluxe!
We loaded up the dinosaurs and headed outside!
The kids loved washing up the dinosaurs! The “mud” really stuck, just as I had hoped, but it might have stuck a little too well! It was a tough job getting the mud off!
My two year old loved using the electric toothbrush!
Scrub! Scrub! Scrub!
After about 20 minutes, my two year old moved on to riding his Tricycle, but Chipmunk (age 3) kept at it for almost an hour. She probably would have gone longer, but we had a meeting to go to. This is an activity to remember again for later!
Take It Up a Notch!
If you want to add even more fun to the wash theme, you could take the kids to the car wash or even wash your car in the driveway. We set up a “Kid Wash” at church once, based on this picture at Spoonful and the kids loved it!
Hopefully, there’s enough hot weather left for a few more wet and wild days this summer!
