Do you have a budding artist on your hands? I can’t even begin to tell you how many pieces of paper I have on my fridge, covered with scrawled puppies, flowers, and houses. My 5 year old is also really hooked on my iPad! So when I heard about Crayola’s new Trace & Draw iPad app, I jumped at the chance to give it a spin!
The Crayola Trace & Draw is a two part system — you download the app from iTunes, and use the case, marker, and trace paper that comes with the unit itself. The paper is thinner so you can see images that are being displayed on the iPad, and it’s sized perfectly to fit on the iPad screen!
Here is the menu screen shot. As you can see, there’s tons of picture themes to choose from! Boys and girls alike will find plenty of pictures to draw.
Once you pick a group, you can flip through and find pictures to trace!
I was a little worried about handing my kid a marker and telling her to go to town on my iPad, but the marker is a classic washable Crayola thin point marker — any stray marks just wipe right off! I really loved how this app helped out with getting her to take her time when making lines and curves. Since she had a guide, it was easier for her to see what amount of control was needed to draw “intricate” (for a 5 year old!) pictures. Another favorite feature was the “connect the dots” aspect!
She loved seeing pictures slowly appear as she drew them! Overall, I’d definitely recommend the Crayola Trace & Draw iPad 2 app. Trace & Draw for iPad 2 is available for $39.99 from Apple Retail Stores, Target, and Griffin Technology.
