Boys learn differently than girls… and active girls learn differently than other girls! There are certain subjects that these in-motion kids really don’t like to do. Why? Because sitting in one place doing something quietly can be very difficult for their active personalities! So, how do we get math, reading, and spelling drilled into their little minds? Here are some of the best reading games for boys to keep their bodies in motion while engaging their minds!
FREE: Reading Games for Boys:
- Turn into your child’s love of the ever-popular MineCraft and have them write Minecraft parodies! Seriously, this fun idea from Kids activities blog will help improve their writing AND their reading!
- Because you can never have enough things to keep the kids occupied, be sure to check out our list of 15 sight word games for kids as well!
- The Detective’s Notebook will keep those boys reading (and deducing, Watson) while having so much fun they won’t even think of it as reading but simply as solving crimes! This is an online interactive game that is FREE!
- Thomas is now 7 and he is still in love with StarFall! He has been since he first started learning letters almost 4 years ago. It has many levels and with the bright graphics, child-like voice, and funny sounds this website is right up a little boy’s alley!
- The Scott Foresman Reading Street Stick Game from Seusstastic will keep the boys entertained for a least a bit.
- What is the only thing better than MineCraft? LEGOs! Duh! 😉 Get the boys reading with LEGO bricks and really see this concept begin to stick!

And ABCmouse is free for all public school teachers in the US and Canada. I signed up my class and I prefer it to starfall.com because it’s easier to control what they go on and personalize it.
