About Kim Young

Hello! My name is Kim. You may see my name with a few posts here and there, I am a contributor to 3 Boys And A Dog. I have my own blog, Mom Tried It, that I started the end of August 2009. I found that every time two or more moms got together it became tip and idea sharing time. So I started a blog that shares tips, ideas, and sanity savers for moms (with the occasional product review). I love to try new things, so the blog works out perfect.

I am a Texan that moved to my husband's hometown in Southern Illinois. We got married in 2002.

My husband, Matt, is the network administrator at the local high school. He loves to play the "If we won the lottery..." game, but the problem is, we don't play the lottery. He is a wonderful husband and an outstanding dad!

Our son, Cole, was born in 2006. He is sweet, extremely compassionate, very hyper, and all about trucks. He is just 100% boy (Mommy's boy and I love it)!

Our daughter, Charley, was born in 2008. She is her mommy with a different exterior. She is bold, outspoken (even though she can't talk yet), a fighter, and thinks her brother and her daddy hung the moon.

In my spare time (huh, what is that?) I like to sew, do crafts, and bake with the kids. I am always up for trying new things and love watching my kids faces when they experience it with me. I spend every day trying to be a better wife, mother, and Christian, but not in that order. :-) I look forward to posting on 3 Boys And A Dog and thank you for the opportunity to share time and experiences with you.

Potluck Recipe: Ice Cream Cake Roll

January 14, 2010 By Kim Young 2 Comments

Okay, so this is not the perfect thing to take to a potluck dinner.  If you are hosting one (like for a football event) it is very do-able.  I make this for my family all of the time and have it requested at extended family functions. Ingredients: 3eggs 1 cup sugar 3/4 cup cake flour […]

This is a variation of the ever popular queso dip.  Your ingredients are simple.  1 large block of Velveeta cheese, 2 cans of Hormel Chili with beans (Hot & Spicy flavor), and some milk.  I have tried a bunch of different chili with this recipe and Hormel Chili with beans (Hot & Spicy) works the […]

Potluck Recipe: Spicy Chicken and Rice Flu Chaser Soup

December 2, 2009 By Kim Young 4 Comments

Today’s recipe is from a great cookbook I was sent to review.  What better way to review a cookbook than by making a recipe from it?!?  New England Soup Factory Cookbook by Marjorie Druker and Clara Silverstein is a great collection of soups.  This is the perfect time of year for warm, tasty soups!  While […]

Potluck Recipe: Chicken Stew

November 18, 2009 By Kim Young 3 Comments

I have a person at my church that requests this every so often.  He loves it.  My husband and kids love this.  It is perfect for this weather, too.  This is not a regular potluck entree, but I have taken it plenty of times.  This makes a great Saturday or Sunday dish.  You make it […]

Howdy to Homemade Costumes!

October 15, 2009 By Kim Young 11 Comments

Everyone wants their kid to look cute on Halloween, but no one wants to buy an expensive costume for them to wear just once (especially nowadays).  Here is a NO SEWING homemade costume that can be done the night before, even though I do not recommend waiting until that close.  Say “Howdy” to my bull […]

Potluck Recipe: Oven Roasted Red Potatoes

October 14, 2009 By Kim Young Leave a Comment

Today’s pick is super easy and one of those you have it cooking while you get ready to go (or in my case, rush around frantically trying to get everything together for the kids, then slop on some make up).  Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Ingredients: 3 lbs. of red potatoes (the smaller the better) […]
