We were given the chance to review Battle Sheep from Blue Orange Games in exchange for an honest blog review.
I totally love to play board games with my family, but we hold back on playing them a lot because of our two year old. However, this game was so captivating for her that she just sat back and watched us play for over an hour with no fuss. My husband couldn’t resist jumping in and playing a few rounds of games too.
Battle Sheep is a game of “leading your sheep into battle and fence out the rivaling herds.” Battle Sheep reminds me of Chinese Checkers with a twist. This game doesn’t allow you to jump over your opponents. Instead you are using your sheep to block in your opponents in their pastures.
This game is a quick little strategy game for 2 to 4 players ages 7 to an adult. I must say though when two adults play this game it is over within a few moves at max. At least that was the case when Del and I played against one another. It took a few games for my six year old (almost 7) to get the hang of the game, but once he did it was more fun to play with him.
My six year old LOVED changing the layout of the pastures with each game. I have to admit I was quite happy with that aspect too because it helped to keep the game interesting. It’s a very simple set up!
The competent pieces of the game are very well made. The chips are hard plastic with very cute detailed sheep on them. The pasture boards are not easily bent or broken. I love the way it’s stored in the game box because it makes for easy storage plus you can easily see if you’re missing pieces of the game.
