I don’t know about where you live, but down here in Summer Alabama, it pretty much rains every single day in the Summer time! Pretty much every afternoon, we get nasty afternoon showers that force the hot, tired, filthy kids back into the house. We try to keep them entertained by heading to indoor places, firing up one of the gaming systems, pulling one of the many games out of our game closet, or popping a movie on the television.

On May 18, the epic action of the classic naval combat game will unfold in theatres nationwide with the release of Universal Pictures’ “Battleship,”starring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Liam Neeson and recording superstar, Rihanna. Of course, the live action doesn’t end with the film. Young naval commanders can go head-to-head with the Alien fleet in Hasbro’s Classic Battleship Movie Edition game. Players choose to command either the Navy or Alien fleet and can unleash brand new super weapon cards to destroy their opponent with attacks like those from the big screen! The game comes in a convenient carrying case, making it easy to wage your own battles at home or on the go.

Mom Says: OH. MY. Goodness! I mean, it is Battleship, but better. LOL! However, we obviously haven’t seen the movie yet so the Alien Fleet kind of threw us off! We didn’t know what to call the ships and had to keep looking at the instruction booklet to say things like, “You sank my Heavy Ordnance Craft!” LOL! We really enjoyed it and with at least 4 different ways of playing, it will keep us entertained for quite some time.

There are four boys in my house. Currently only two of them use the toilet, one is on the verge of being potty trained and the last is obviously no where near potty training as he is only six months old. I guess I am one of the lucky moms out there that doesn’t have to clean up the messes my boys make….yet! I have a feeling once my two year old is trained he’ll be a disaster in the bathroom just like he is in all the other rooms.

So although the Potty Target is intended to help decrease, if not completely eliminate the messes that boys make in the bathroom, I was hoping to use them to entice my two year old to even USE the potty. I am sad to report that although he likes the idea of the stickers on the potty and he made a hilarious attempt to stand and pee, something is still preventing him from using the toilet. I will prevail though, soon, I hope.

The concept of the Potty Target was the idea of Stacey Dragan and Doug Kempel, parents to two little boys who had very little desire to aim for the big white toilet bowl. So in their frustration they decided to give them something to aim for, and so the Potty Target was born in 2009. Made with a water proof adhesive these cute little stickers are not only useful but great conversation pieces as well. I have had quite a few people mention them. In fact my sister in law asked me if I knew there was a sticker in my toilet, because she know my little guy so well and assumed he had put a sticker in my toilet for fun!

Extremely easy to install, it’s a simple matter of draining your toilet bowl, washing and drying the install location, then applying the sticker. It’s just that simple. The biggest problem with 9 weeks of Summer is that kids lose some of what they were taught in school. Keeping them reading and learning all Summer helps to defeat that learning loss!

I feel learning is very important part of growing up. I strongly believe teaching my children shouldn’t be just up to the teachers. I think that as parents we should also encourage our children to learn. Seeings how not all parents are teachers and didn’t go to school for education sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. I recently came across a great program to help teach my kids how to read, Touchtile Reading System.

The Touchtile™ Reading System consists of six levels:

Level One – Consonants, vowels, and blending: this level teaches them the letter sounds and how to blend two letter sounds together.

Level Two – CVC pattern: this level teaches them how to blend three letter sounds together with a consonant, vowel, consonant pattern.

Level Three – Blends and digraphs : this level teaches them how to blend four sounds together with an emphasis on blends and digraphs.

Level Four -Long E : this level teaches them how to use the silent e at the end of words.

Level Five -Endings : this level teaches them how to add endings to words.

Level Six -Multi-Syllable Words : this level teaches them how to blend multi-syllabic words.

My son is currently attending Head Start and will be in Kindergarten next year. He is one very excited boy. I have notice several times just through casual conversation that he struggles allot with letter sounds. I know he is still young, but I don’t want it to become a habit that he says certain letters wrong. I am constantly correcting him but getting no where. Only after using this system for a week at 15minutes a day I have notice a huge difference how he says certain letters! Level one is broke up into two parts. Part one is just for working on the letter sounds. Part two is to show them how to blend to sounds together. For example some of the words we will work with are: at, am, an, as, and ax. Like I said we have been at this for a week now and I think in just another week we can move on to part two. My only complaint about this system is I wish I have a came across it sooner!

Who knew bamboo could be used for so many different things? You see bamboo flooring, towels, clothes and diapers, and the list goes on. Ever Bamboo is a Canadian company (woot woot!) that uses the rapidly growing moso bamboo to create it’s line of products from deodorizers to skin care!

Due to the growth characteristics of moso bamboo, millions of tiny holes are created as the plant densifies as it matures, a process taking approximately five years. It is these tiny holes that ultimately give the resulting bamboo charcoal its revolutionary abilities as both a deodorizer and dehumidifier. These benefits have been enjoyed for more than five centuries in Asia.

Bamboo forests are widely planted throughout Asia, and due to the resurgence in the recognition of its benefits, many more acres are planted every day. And as bamboo takes only five years from seedling to mature plant, it will be readily available for all future generations.

With proper care, your bamboo charcoal product can last an entire year or more. After this, and because it is a 100% natural product, it can be recycled into the ecosystem.

I was sent the Room Deodorizer, the Mini Deodorizer and the HEI Face and Body Soap. I don’t have many musty or smelly areas in my home but with 4 kids in a van, there are occasionally a few nasty odors that linger due to dropped pieces of food and what not. So I stuck the room deodorizer in my van. And I settled on putting a mini under my kitchen sink, where we keep the recycling, and a mini in my two piece bath, which tends to get a bit musty on occasion.

The deodorizers:

These worked wonders! After only a night in my van when I opened the door I was not greeted with……clean fresh air! No stale smell, no rotting apple smell, just odor free clean smell. Much better then any leaf shaped car deodorizer I have used before, that’s for sure. And it was the same under my kitchen sink and in my bathroom. It will be interesting to see how well it does when the weather gets warmer again, and my toilet starts to sweat! Did I mention they were also dehumidifiers?

The soap:

This was a unique experience indeed. Never have I had a bar of soap lather up so much. It was almost like shaving cream. I was a bit thrown off initially when you see black streaks heading toward the drain but I suppose that’s to be expected when your washing with a charcoal soap! The soap has left me feeling quite clean and residue free. With other soaps I always feel like there is something left behind but the HEI face and body soap literally left me squeaky clean. I will definitely be looking into where I can get more of this soap.
