If you drive, or even more important, if you have kids that drive, be sure to read this! We all know how important it is to not text and drive. We have seen so many accidents, many fatal, that may never have happened had the driver not been texting. So it’s time to make a pledge to NEVER text and drive.
Memorial Day is the first big driving holiday of the year. With so many people out on the roads this weekend it is the perfect time to take the pledge to NEVER text and drive. .
Verizon is asking people to realize that whatever you have to say – IT CAN WAIT! Nothing you have to say is worth your life or the life of someone else. And that is what is at risk when you decide to text and drive. If it can’t wait, pull over your car and then text.
Here is what your pledge means: No text message, email, website or video is worth the risk of endangering my life or the lives of others on the road. I pledge to never text and drive and will take action to educate others about the dangers of texting while driving. NO TEXT IS WORTH THE RISK. IT CAN WAIT.
Here is what you need to do:
1) Go to ItCanWait.com – a website dedicated to this campaign.
2) You can make your pledge via Facebook or directly on the page.
You can also leave your own personal stories about how texting and driving affected your life.
I took the pledge because I want my friends and family to see how important I find this topic. I just hope when my boys are old enough to drive that more and more people will have realized the importance as well. Our roads are dangerous enough without adding the total distraction that texting adds to it. Especially those young drivers who are just not as experienced to handle sticky situations on the road yet. Stick a phone in their hand (or hands) while they are driving to text their friend an "LOL" is just scary to me.
So join me and everyone else who has taken the pledge to not text and drive as a part of the It Can Wait Campaign! If your kids are not driving now – they will be before you know it. And it’s up to us to make the roads as safe as we possibly can.
If your kids are driving already, make them sit down and look at the website with you and you can take the pledge together.
