3 Ingredient Nutella Croissants Breakfast Recipe

Sharing is caring!

I love simple breakfast ideas that take only a few minutes to whip together while adding a bit of indulgence and luxury to your mornings.

That’s exactly what these Nutella Croissants do, in less than 15 minutes from start to finish (and that includes 8-10 minutes in the oven). Here’s our newest addition to our breakfast ideas with Nutella list of yumminess!

While you could create Nutella croissant recipes from scratch, it is much easier to make breakfast croissants when you use a premade dough!

Nutella Croissants - 2 ingredients and your morning is off to a heavenly start. A great idea for a quick breakfast that is still a little bit special - perfect for Christmas morning or a birthday breakfast.

Of course, you can make your croissants from scratch – a feat I have only attempted once – but I prefer to go the easy route in the mornings, opting for Pillsbury crescent roll or pre-made puff pastry sheets.

The following ingredients are affiliate links on Amazon because they may be a bit hard to find in your normal store.  I wanted you to be able to see exactly which things we are using.

These are inspired by the classic French pain au chocolat, but taken a step above with that Nutella substitution. (And really, the French love Nutella – it’s at all of their crepe stands, so I think these Nutella Croissants just combine two classic French traditions!)

Yum! This is a delicious breakfast recipe for Christmas morning, or a birthday breakfast and super quick to prepare with only two ingredients!

What kinds of ingredients are in Nutella?

Nutella is a popular brand of hazelnut-chocolate spread that can be enjoyed on a variety of foods such as toast, pancakes and fruit. This sweet condiment is not just a favorite among children; adults love the creamy and delicious taste of Nutella too!

Despite its creamy and sweet flavor, the main components behind its popularity are the ingredients it contains. At the top of this list is sugar, followed by palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa powder, skim milk powder and whey powder. It also has reduced minerals to enhance its flavor and vanillin for additional sweetness.

Furthermore, lecithin from soybeans is included as an emulsifier- allowing these different ingredients to bind together seamlessly- making sure each spoonful retains the same indulgent creamy texture.

While Nutella may be tasty, it should not be incorporated into your daily diet; it should still be had in moderation due to its caloric content.

How much sugar per serving is present in Nutella?

A single serving of Nutella contains 21 grams of sugar, approximately five teaspoons. This is a notable amount, particularly when considering the World Health Organization’s recommendation that adults limit their added sugar intake to no more than 6-9 teaspoons per day.

Nutella is often marketed as a healthy food due to its sizeable proportion of cocoa and hazelnuts relative to other ingredients; however, because of its high sugar content, it should not be consumed in large quantities.

For those looking for an alternative to sugary spreads or treats with less damaging health effects, substituting Nutella with a lower-sugar option may be beneficial.

Are there any Nutella alternatives?

In recent years, the popularity of Nutella has grown due to its convenience, taste, and variety of uses. As a result, some have started looking for Nutella alternatives that are healthier choices or provide different flavors or textures.

While many manufacturers do offer an identical product that is marketed as an ‘alternative’ to Nutella, it is important to note that these products will still contain sugar and preservatives, which may not be consistent with a healthy lifestyle choice.

Some other options might include natural nut spreads like almond butter or peanut butter, both of which provide similar uses as Nutella with fewer artificial ingredients.

Additionally, you could always look to create your own spread at home by blending nuts or seeds with honey.

Ultimately, the preference for any alternative comes down to personal taste and what works best for every individual’s dietary needs.

Does Nutella expire?

Nutella, the popular hazelnut spread beloved by many, does indeed have an expiry date. The expiration date is usually printed on the back of the jar and typically reads about two years from the date of purchase.

Unlike other food items, Nutella contains less water and a higher fat content than most products, thus providing it with a longer shelf life than many other spreads. Care should still be taken to ensure that it is stored in a cool and dry place to maximize its shelf life further.

Nutella also offers expiration dates for both open and unopened jars so consumers can monitor when they must be consumed or thrown out for optimal safety.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 4-6 Tablespoons Nutella
  • Powdered sugar for dusting optional

Instructions

Preheat your oven to the pastry package directions. (Typically 350F)

Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut into triangles using a pastry or pizza cutter if not already portioned out to crescents. (First cut into 4 squares, then slice each square horizontally.)

Spread 1/2 Tablespoon of Nutella around the middle of each triangle, trying to avoid going straight to the edges, as the chocolate can burn.

Roll each triangle into a "crescent" shape by rolling one of the shorter sides of the triangle towards a pointy end. Curve the edges if possible into a "C" shape.

Bake according to the pastry package directions, typically 8-10 minutes.

Remove and immediately drizzle with extra Nutella and sprinkle with powdered sugar, using a sifter.
