Ricky has been running since the beginning of the summer and has lost TONS of weight. He has run through his tennis shoes and wants some new ones. It started out that he wanted ANYTHING that he could run in and now he wants the 200 dollar ones. LOL! I am just messing with him!
Honestly, I get it. If you are going to be a serious runner, then you need high performance running shoes. Running can be extremely rough on your knees, feet, ankles, hips, and back. If you have the opportunity to invest in high quality shoes, you could be saving yourself thousands in medical bills and a lifetime of pain. But, how do you decide what is a good shoe and what isn’t? If shoe A has a higher price tag than shoe B, does that mean it is a better shoe? NO! You need to know what to look for:
- Good support – your ankles and arches should receive plenty of support!
- Plenty of cushion – you need a bit of “padding” between you and the ground, otherwise you could save every penny and go barefoot! Simply put, you need shoes to reduce impact!
- Breathability – be sure your foot is getting enough air to prevent athlete’s foot!
- Decide what type of running you are doing – the shoes are usually pretty self-explanatory! Walking shoes are made for walking, cross-country shoes are made for the long haul and many terrain types, racing shoes are made to give you a bit more speed. Decide on the running and look for shoes in that category.
So, with all that in mind, I spent quite some time looking for the brands that make the type of shoe my husband is looking for. He thinks he wants the popular brands worn by the professional athletes, but he doesn’t realize that there are better ones out there. They are made for what he has in mind.
The internet is a VAST place! Spend some time on research before making a purchase of running shoes or any other major purchase!
