Ways to Save Money on Weddings - Fake Flowers

One of the best ways to save money on weddings is to use fake flowers. Silk flowers have come a long way in the past decade and well made fake wedding flowers can be hard to tell apart from the real ones (especially in your wedding photographs).

You can mix and match the fake silk wedding flowers with the real ones in order to save money on weddings while still getting that fresh flower smell. If you have your heart set on a real wedding flower bouquet, but the groomsmen do not mind if they have a silk flower boutonniere then use the real flowers for you and the fake for them. I have even seen successful mixes in the same bouquet, but I suggest using a professional wedding florist if you want to do that. When it is done well it looks beautiful, but poorly made mixed bouquets can be very obvious.

If you are trying to maximize the money you save on your wedding then use a coupon or take advantage of a sale when buying silk wedding flowers. Do not go to the dollar store! There are great options at hobby and craft stores that look real (even down to wilting and brown spots if you want your fake flowers to have those). Hobby and craft stores (like Hobby Lobby, Joanne fabrics, and Michaels) often send out coupons for a percent off and they often have sales. Find out when the next flower sale will be and purchase your wedding flowers at that time. Your target price should be 50% off (or more) the retail value.

My favorite benefit to using fake flowers as a way to save money on weddings is your own bouquet will look like new for as long as you want to keep it. Drying your bouquet is a time-consuming process and, unfortunately, it often is found years later crumbled in pieces after something was thrown on top of it.

Another great benefit is you have the option of any flower in the world without having to worry about availability. You can use a budget wedding magazine as inspiration and have the florist copy any bouquet you want! If you have a favorite flower then you are stuck having your wedding when the flower is in season or you will have to pay a fee to have it delivered. Delivery is a worry in itself because if it shows up in an unacceptable condition, you do not always have enough time to correct it.
