Each month, I will send in a neat unit study that coordinates with fun and sometimes wacky Holidays for the upcoming month.  In addition to tips, ideas, and thoughts, I will also include links to some fun things to learn about in your homeschool.  Don’t homeschool?  No big deal!  Spend time with your kids during the weekends and on holidays doing these fun things and teach them something in the process!

November is… Peanut Butter Lovers Month!

Peanut Butter Lovers

Specific Days that Coordinate:

  • November 3rd – Sandwich Day.  Make Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches for lunch or supper today!
  • November 8th – Cook Something Bold Day.  This would be a great day to make Peanut Butter Cap’N Crunch Chicken!
  • November 16th – Have a party with your bear day!  Make some Peanut Butter Cookies and have a Tea Party with your child and their stuffed bears!
  • November 23rd – National Cashew Day.  Peanut Butter and Cashews… that could be really yummy!

Fun things to do this month:

  • Make Peanut Pets using peanut shells, pipe cleaners, wiggly eyes, and other crafty items.  You could even go so far as writing a play and acting it out!
  • Make a bird feeder using a pine cone, peanut butter, and bird seed!
  • Learn about the History of Peanut Butter!
  • Learn about George Washington Carver and his 300 other uses for Peanuts!

NOTE:  I may occasionally post some things that cost, but will try very hard to keep those items minimal and under 5 dollars each!  Sometimes, you just have to spend a bit of money to really get something you want. LOL!

  • 1st – World Vegetarian Day (ever made cookies without eggs? Try this Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe.
  • 7th – World Smile Day – take some cookies to someone and make them smile!
  • 12th – It’s My Party Day!  Have a little party and only serve cookies.
  • 14th – National Dessert Day
  • 22nd – National Nut Day.  Seems like the perfect day to make some cookies with nuts in them.

August is… National Golf Month!

Specific Days that Coordinate:

  • August 10thLazy Day Don’t ask me why, but people say Golf is the lazy man’s sport.  So, go be lazy and take in a few rounds of golf, or take the kids to play mini golf.
  • August 11thSon and Daughter Day This is the perfect day to spend some time with the children.  On Grandparents Day, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day my kids complain that there is no kids day.  Guess what, turns out there is!  Go out and make them feel special on their special day!  (Then, call your parents and tell them they owe you a gift <grin>)
  • August 12thMiddle Child’s Day Give some extra recognition to your special middle child today!  Don’t have one in the middle?  Call up some “middle sibling” friends or do something with your middle sibling.  Don’t forget to make it Golf themed!
  • August 13th – Left-handed people might be more artistic and creative, but in this right handed world, they kind of have to be!  Share some of these fun, left-handed, facts with your left handed child.  All of your kids right handed?  Have them try to be left-handed for the day!  You can even go play Golf left-handed!

  • Learn about, sign up for, and learn how to play Golf

  • July 15thCow Appreciation Day. What better way to show your appreciation for the day than to stick to pork hotdogs? Smile
  • July 17thNational Ice Cream Day. Nice!  Make some ice cream and invite family and friends over to celebrate!  To help you out, here is an awesome list of ice cream recipes.
  • July 23rdNational Hot Dog Day The main day for this crazy holiday!  Be sure you are serving up some hotdogs this month!  (Since you are preparing for the month a week ahead of time, be sure to grab this coupon to save on hotdogs!)
  • July 31st - Mutt’s Day. OK, I know this is kind of gross saying this holiday coordinates with National Hot Dog Month, but think about it.  A mutt is a mixed breed and what is a hotdog?  A mixture of stuff. HA!  I want to see how y’all have fun with this one.  Smile
