About the Authors (from their website)

Les and Leslie. A husband-and-wife team who not only share the same name, but the same passion for helping others build healthy relationships. In 1991, the Parrotts founded the Center for Relationship Development on the campus of Seattle Pacific University – a groundbreaking program dedicated to teaching the basics of good relationships.

Married in 1984, the Parrotts bring real-life examples to their speaking platform. Their professional training – Leslie as a marriage and family therapist, and Les as a clinical psychologist – ensures a presentation that is grounded, insightful and cutting-edge. Les and Leslie are master communicators. They are entertaining, thought-provoking and immeasurably practical. One minute you’ll be laughing and the next you’ll sit still in silence as they open your eyes to how you can make your relationships all they were meant to be.

Each year Les and Leslie speak in over 40 cities. Their audiences include a wide array of venues, from churches to Fortune 500 company board rooms. The Governor of Oklahoma appointed the Parrotts as the first ever statewide Marriage Ambassadors. Authorities have called upon Les and Leslie to provide on-site support in the aftermath of worldwide disasters such as Ground Zero and Chernobyl. The Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, invited them to assist his soldiers with re-entry into family life upon returning from Iraq.

Their books have sold over one million copies in more than two dozen languages, and include best-selling and Gold-medallion winner Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts. Other popular titles include The Control Freak, I Love You More, Becoming Soul Mates, Relationships, Questions Couples Ask, Shoulda Woulda Coulda, and High-Maintenance Relationships.

About the Book

The facts are on the table. Dinnertime is truly the most important hour in a day that a family can spend together. Focusing on the family meal, this book will help strengthen families by showing them how to reclaim this important time in order to build relationships, draw closer to one another, and restore a sense of peace in their homes. Millions of parents in America can picture the kind of home life they want but don’t know how to make it a reality. The Hour That Matters Most will help readers strengthen and transform their own families—specifically around the dinner table.

My Thoughts

I love that this book helps families spend time together!  I like the recipes, helpful hints, and studies that they give information on.  I love this quote:  ”Consider this:  study after study shows that the more often families eat together, the less likely the kids are to smoke, drink, do drugs, get depressed, develop eating disorders, become overweight, and consider suicide–and the more likely they are to eat their vegetables, know which fork to use, learn big words, do well in school, feel that their parents love them, and delay having sex.”  Yes!  I love the idea of getting a group together to prepare meals!  We have to ask open-ended questions and listen to our children!  It also teaches how to deal with conflict and teach manners!  Which is fantastic for me!  A great resource to read!

REVIEW: Angell Candy Bar

Angell Logo HIGH 300x94 REVIEW: Angell Candy BarWho loves chocolate? *Raises hand, jumps up and down in excitement* Me, Me, Me! Who doesn’t?!? (I know some people don’t but the majority of people I know do icon wink REVIEW: Angell Candy Bar ) I love chocolate so much, it’s just a bad idea to even have it in my house! It doesn’t last long that’s for sure. In fact I didn’t even have the Angell Organic Candy Bars in the house 12 hours and they were devoured! I posted a pic on my personal Facebook page, my husband saw it and right after dinner he asked about the bars and that was it! They were opened and sampled quite happily I might add.

I was sent one each of their three bars; Angell Crisp, a milk chocolate bar with a crispy creamy center (gluten-free), Snow Angell, a white chocolate bar with a sweet and creamy coconut center and finally Angell Dark a dark chocolate bar with a rich cocoa and almond center(vegan).

Our favorites were the Angell Crisp and the Snow Angell bars. They were just heavenly! I don’t ever reach for a white chocolate candy bar, but let me tell you I would reach for this one each. and. every. time. I think it was the creamy coconut centre that got me. My husband said it was one of the finest white chocolate candy bars he’s tasted in a while. And the Angell Crisp bar….oh my a very close second, oh who am I kidding it’s tied for first! I LOVE anything with caramel in it. Add some crispy bits, SOLD! Unfortunately the Angell Dark was not our favorite bar, which really surprised us because we love dark chocolate and strong flavored foods and drinks. We found it had a very harsh cocoa taste like it was in the 75-90% cocoa range. However, I ate more of the bar just now with my cup of coffee and WOW! The coffee brought out the goodness and took away the taste I didn’t like. Which may have been the almond extract but it’s hard to tell.

Each bar has only 5-7 pronounceable ingredients and less then 200 calories! A candy bar you can feel good about eating.

Angell OrganicCandyBars 300x250 REVIEW: Angell Candy BarHere’s a little bit about the company:

Angell Organic Candy Bars are the world’s first FairTrade Certified® organic candy bars.
Angell Bars are a heavenly treat sure to please even the most discriminating sweet tooth,
made using the highest quality, certified organic ingredients, and premium organic and
Fair Trade chocolates. Designed to be a candy bar without compromise, Angell Bars draw
on the rich tradition of American candy bars, while carefully examining every step of
production with an eye towards implementing more ethical, responsible practices (or, as
their founders put it, following an Eat No Evil™ philosophy).

Husband-and-wife founders Christopher and Suzanne Angell created Angell Bars to fill
a gap in the candy market for a traditional candy bar that consumers could feel good
about eating because of the product’s high quality ingredients, sustainable production,
and reasonable price point. “Suzanne and I have always shared a love of candy bars, but
we found ourselves unable buy our old favorites as we learned more about how they were
produced.” said Christopher Angell. “We created Angell Bars so that everyone could
enjoy a delicious candy bar without compromising their values.” In addition, Christopher
and Suzanne donate 1% of the gross sales of Angell Bars to environmental organizations
through 1% For the Planet (www.onepercentfortheplanet.org). When you eat an Angell
Organic Candy Bar, you not only eat something delicious, you also Eat No Evil.

These sinfully delicious organic candy bars are produced in the most innocent of ways.
Angell Bars are packaged in 100% recycled, 50%+ post-consumer cardboard caddies, and
run their website on servers powered by renewable electricity.

I suggest you head on out and get yourself some of these bars. And while your at it, keep your eyes open for a new bar coming soon…..

Giveaway: Lilla Rose Flexi-Clip

I saw these and thought this would be great, considering how many girls I have!  I was right!

Lilla Rose Inc Giveaway: Lilla Rose Flexi ClipAbout Lilla Rose

We’ve been in the hair goods business since 1992 when my wife wanted that first pair of beaded chopsticks. She bought the materials to make them but then decided to go get the expensive ones at Nordstrom instead. I took her materials, fascinated by what they were selling for and started making them myself by hand in the garage. Enthusiastic, admiring friends bought them up. Suppliers referred us to contacts with major retailers nationwide and, several million pairs later, everlasting success was assured… almost.

Trials and tribulations ensued, the product line expanded and contracted, and we lived life utterly dependent on what huge retailers sold or didn’t sell for us. After 9/11 things got even tougher, and we retracted into the “lean times”. I call it the black years, where we literally couldn’t make rent. It was as if everything I tried failed.

My wife, Missy, finally had had enough and sent me into the garage with instructions to, “pull out your old beads and wire, make something and go sell it… NOW or else!” (All husbands know what or elsemeans!)

I had so much raw inventory left over from my seven years of trying to make a go of big retailers and as fate would have it, one of the products I had the most materials for was the Flexi clip. I quickly began assembling product for a weekend marketplace near our home. I went to the marketplace with barely enough capital to get in, buy a hotdog and get home.

By the end of the first weekend, I had left with over $1,000. At the time, it was so significant. It represented hope. Tears of joy followed. The epiphany came when I realized I had kept doing the same thing for years and expected a different result. I now had a roadmap. I understood that no one would understand really how good my products were unless I demonstrated them.

Need for more financial stability led me to experiment with sales at a local Farmer’s Market where I quickly confirmed all the benefits, and potential, of direct selling. Then another moment of truth unfolded before me: I wanted to do an event but I                        couldn’t be in two places at once. My friend, Shannon, suggested she would cover the Farmers Market if I wanted to do another event. Another “ah-ah” moment… duplicate my effort without cloning!
Product demonstration, instant customer feedback, immediate cash results… WOW! A whole new world opened up! With utility patent in hand I set out to spread my enthusiasm for the Flexi-clip directly to others. Without the willingness of my wife to allow me to follow this path, none of this would be here today.

They have responded! After seven successful years of experience at thousands of events across the nation we now have a wildly enthusiastic following. Other fantastic products backed up by exceptional customer service have allowed for our current success. Now, how to expand the number of people who know about our products, and allow them to profit while they share with others?

My Thoughts
This is absolutely fantastic!  I remember when clips like this were cool, but this is SO much better!  The “stick” that goes through is attached and isn’t super long, which is great!  There are so many different styles to choose from, but make sure to choose the right size!  This one is the extra small, and it works perfect for my half ups (and my oldest daughters).  I can also do full-ups with her hair and my other daughters!  It’s super easy and gets bangs out of their face, so awesome!  I LOVE it!
Buy it!
You can get your own flexi clip (or any of the other awesome hair products) here.  The flexi clips are from $12-$30 (depending on the clip).

REVIEW: Ivory Soap

Finding the right hand soap, body wash, shampoo, dish soap, etc can be very difficult. While one brand may dry out my hands another will leave them feeling soft and smooth. I usually purchase liquid hand soap because it’s easy to use and the kids don’t leave too much of a mess when they are done using it. When I received my package from Ivory containing 18 bars of soap I was a little skeptical if they would work for my family. While they smelled wonderful, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to wrap my mind around using bar soap again after so many years. Ivory Soap 168x300 REVIEW: Ivory Soap

I have to say though that I really like the Aloe scented bars. After washing my hands they felt so clean and smelled so good I almost questioned whether I was using a bar soap. Plus it leaves my bathroom smelling so fresh and clean. I could get used to using bar soap again after all these years. I’m not sure my kids get the concept but that’s ok it just means I get to use it all myself icon wink REVIEW: Ivory Soap

Ivory has undergone a ‘reinvention’ of sorts in the last few months resulting in modernized packaging and a partnership with Emmy award winner Melissa McCarthy. Melissa will be the host of their new online social community, called “The Soap Dish”, an online community for women to engage and dish about life’s simple truths. To visit the forum and dish with Melissa and other moms head on over to their Facebook page, Twitter account or YouTube channel.
