My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this book, because I know my children took awhile to realize it is easier to pray and get answers than to search and search and get angry (which is no fun for anyone)!  I love that Jason takes a long time wishing for his pet to come back before he realizes how useless it is to wish for things.  That is a great lesson for kiddos!  The illustrations are awesome and go right along with the text (which is also fantastic)!  I think this is a great book for all ages!

Buy it!

You can buy it online at Amazon, 4RV Publishing online bookstore, or you can get autographed copies from author, or autographed copies from illustrator for only $12.99!

3 Boys and a Dog.. and TWO Cats!

I know y’all have missed me and I am so sorry!  Thanks a bunch for the sweet emails asking if everything is ok with me and the boys.  Yes, everything is perfectly fine over here.  I have a TON going on, so I only have a small amount of online time and I have not been spending it very wisely.

I have contributors and I assumed they had some posts to go on the past couple of days.  They didn’t have any for those slots.  That is 100% my fault!  I should have checked and filled the slots!  I am just working so hard trying to get the deal site going and popular that I am seriously neglecting the main site.  Forgive me?

So, what is going on in my life?  Ha!  What isn’t going on?

** We have not one, but two new cats!  Wow, cats eat a TON of food.  The cats eat way more than my dog! I want them gone, but the boys don’t. LOL!

** I spent the first couple weeks of my summer at the airport seeing 50 EF Foundation Teenagers off.  They don’t all leave at the same time, so it makes for some really long weeks,

** I am participating in a Clinical Research Study for my psoriasis.  This stuff actually seems to be working!  But, it is a once a week visit to a doctor about 40 minutes from my house.

** Obviously, the deal site is taking a TON of my time, but I am really enjoying bringing my readers all the freebies, specials, and best homeschooling deals over there.

** Being blog conference season, Blog Print Media is pretty busy.  Yes, that is good because it means money in my pocket, but it takes quite a bit of time.

**  I am now a Tropicana Brand Ambassador (or a Tropimama) so be expecting some fun things from that.

**  I am a also now a Blinds.com Brand Ambassador (or M.O.B member – Mildly Obsessed with Blinds).  I have some cool information coming up about that pretty soon, too,  Including a Twitter Party next Monday.  *Details coming soon

** I am freaking out about the school year.  I have never been home alone and come August, I will be!  Tripp has decided that he would like to go back to school and Tank will be starting Kindergarten.  What am I going to do with no boys at home?

** Oh!  I started Zumba a couple weeks ago and have lost about 5 pounds.  It isn’t much, but I am not dieting – just exercising.

**  Also, our stupid Chrysler Town and Country has sent most of the summer in the shop.  As soon as we get it out, it goes right back in!  It is getting more than a little frustrating to say the least.

I am sure there is a million more things, but that should catch you up. wlEmoticon smile1 3 Boys and a Dog.. and TWO Cats!  How are you?  How is summer treating you?

Giveaway: The Adventures of the Poodle Posse series

400x100nationalparenting 300x75 Giveaway: The Adventures of the Poodle Posse series

I love to read and my 8-year-old son very much takes after me, so I was excited to share this series with him!  He loves animals and these books are absolutely about animals!  They are a set of three books:  “The Adventures of the Poodle Posse” by Chrysa Smith and illustrated by Pat Achilles.

Poodle Posse 1 150x150 Giveaway: The Adventures of the Poodle Posse series

About the Book(s) from the website

Book #1 contains two tales:  The Case of the Missing Steak Bone/Who Let the Dogs Out?  The first tale started it all, as Top Dog Woody tries to outsmart his brother by stealing and hiding a special treat. But Archie innocently turns events around in the house when he unexpectedly finds it and is a bit more welcome to the idea of sharing. In the second story, rescued dog Archie returns to the shelter to help out his friends with a caring, but crazy night of antics.

Book #2 in the series contains two tales: The Princess & the Frenchmen/No Dogs Allowed! It was edited/previewed by students in two elementary schools. The first tale is about the growth of the posse. There’s now a third poodle in the mix: a girl with a poodlicious attitude, and everyone needs to adjust and accept. The second tale, with it’s Jersey Shore beach image on the front cover, takes the posse on a beach vacation where things don’t quite go as planned. The message? Sometimes we need to readjust our sails when the wind is blowing the wrong way.

Book #3 in the series is a Halloween tale & activity book. About ten elementary schools in or near the Greater Philadelphia Area participated in the preview, edit, creative process.  The tale is not only about Halloween, but what it means to be yourself. It is followed by fun holiday activities including a maze, make-your-own masks, a fortune teller, trivia and healthy Halloween dog treat recipes.Pictures in Poodle Posse 300x231 Giveaway: The Adventures of the Poodle Posse seriesOur opinions

I let my son read them first and he LOVES them!  When I asked if he liked them, he said:  “I wish there were more!”  Considering how much he reads, that is HIGH praise!  I agree!  I think they are all very well-written, the pictures are drawn very well, and the ratio of words to pictures is just right!  They are all told from Mrs. Flout’s dog’s point-of-views and what kid doesn’t wish he could understand what his pet was thinking or “saying?”  I also like the comprehension questions at the end, perfect for a teacher!  They are suggested for grades 2-4, but they can be read to children of all ages!  A fantastic series, I’m looking forward to the fourth book!

About the Author, Chrysa Smith (from her website)

Well, I’ve been writing freelance magazine features for over 20 years–on everything from celebrity chefs and resorts to homing pigeons and pot-bellied pigs. I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with my family and own posse of poodles.

Before being my own boss, I served as an editor for Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich, and a communications manager/consultant for both Fortune 500 and smaller corporations. For the past two decades, I’ve written for both national and regional magazines and corporations. I guess you can say that I’ve gone to the dogs, spending many fun hours observing, writing and speaking about some of my favorite four-legged companions, and teaching adult publishing camps at Temple University, Mercer County Community College, DelVal College and various community education programs.

Giveaway: Martha Stewart Pets Spring Collection Dish Set and Hoodie

Martha Stewart Pets has launched their spring pet collection! I got a chance to try out two of the items from the new line.

I think Bailey looked pretty good in her pink butterfly cotton hoodie from Martha Stewart Pets. Normally, she’s not too thrilled about getting “dressed up,” but this fit her comfortably and provided a nice layer of protection against the crazy cold late spring weather we’ve been having here in MN.

I think the hood adds a little bit of fun. Obviously it’s not super functional over Chihuahua ears, but it is a cute detail that makes this hoodie stand out from other doggy sweaters. The hoodie held up well in the wash and did not fade at all.

I really liked the 3 piece bowl set I received to try out, too. It was the perfect size for my Chihuahuas, though it was a bit small for the pit bull as you can see here.

IMG 1824 Giveaway: Martha Stewart Pets Spring Collection Dish Set and Hoodie

What I liked most about it was the air-seal lid. In the past I’ve fed my dogs a raw diet, and with the air-seal lid, you can pre-make a meal and stick it in the fridge without worrying about it drying out. Or pop the whole dish set in the car with your pup’s meal already portioned out for days when you’re traveling with your canine companion.

IMG 1827 Giveaway: Martha Stewart Pets Spring Collection Dish Set and Hoodie

The bowl had a nice non-skid bottom, too, which is important in our house. My dogs are very food-motivated, and the non-skid bottom helps keep them from nosing the bowl across the kitchen as they eat.

The Martha Stewart Pets line is available exclusively at PETSMART and is on sale fro 20% through May 22, 2011.

You can purchase the Butterfly Hoodie shown here for $9.97. The 3-Piece Bowl Set for Dogs is on sale from $8.14 to 16.79.

Win It

One lucky reader will win BOTH a 3-piece bowl set AND a cotton hoodie for their own pup!
