Giveaway: PediaCare Infants’/Children’s Pain Reliever

Thanks to the changes to the dosing, I was very excited to try this out!

About PediaCare (from their website)

Caring for Kids since 1984

At PediaCare®, we help the next generation of teachers, astronauts and scientists get the most out of their childhood. Because they can’t conquer the world until they’ve mastered the playground. That’s why, for years, pediatricians and parents have relied on us for safe, effective medicines. And now we’re proud to introduce an expanded line of products for children and infants. No matter what the ailment, like cough, cold, fever or aches and pains, you can count on PediaCare to care for your kids.
My Thoughts
I got this just in time for my one-year-old to start teething (she has three teeth that are just coming in this month).  Her doctor had just told us about the different dosing depending on whether you were using the old or new acetaminophen.  So, I was thrilled to have this available, with the right dosing!  Even better was the way the bottle was made with the little hole (flow restrictor) and the syringe that you can stick in the bottle upside down to fill it up exactly where you want it!  And the syringe is labelled, so you know it’s for the Infant Acetaminophen!  Awesome!  My baby loves it!  She has been so sad while teething and within minutes of getting a dose, she is back to her happy self!  Phew!  Today she even pointed at the top of the fridge when she started getting cranky and impatiently waited for her next dose and had no problem opening her mouth for her medicine!  Hurray!

About Their New Color Lines

Fall Fever includes:  Defense Deep red: a rich bordeaux with a mystifying matte finish, Balance Brick: a modern maroon with body and balance, and Nobel Navy: a sea-at-dusk shade that reflects lights and brings dimension to tips and toes alike.

Jolly & Joy includes:  Revive Ruby Red: a shimmer-infused, Wizard of Oz-inspired shade of crimson, Passion Purple: a bombshell-boysenberry with subtle silver meshed throughout, Essential Emerald: a take on the classic tree-and-plant-inspired gem of a shade, with delicate glimmer and unparalleled amounts of glamour, Serene Silver Glitter: a seasonal sizzler like no other; shine, chic, totally unique in the metallic scene, and Resolution Red Glitter: a red-meets-copper spin that’s sequin-look-alike laden with high-shine and sparkle.

My Thoughts

I love these nail polishes!  I love that I can let my girls paint theirs or my nails and if it gets on my skin, it’s not a big deal!  The bottles are a lot bigger than the ones you would buy at a store, so you’re getting considerably more for a much better product!  It also stays on for a good amount of time without looking chipped.  I had my toenails painted (my four-year-old did it) two weeks ago and they still look fantastic!  As for my favorite colors, I prefer the Glitters for the pure fun of it, but I also really like the Ruby Red and the Balance Brick.  All of the colors have great coverage with just one layer-except Emerald!  But, it’s such a pretty color you won’t mind putting the second coat on!  All-in-all I thoroughly recommend these products!

Buy it!

You can buy them at the store here for $14-17 each.  Or you can buy them on sale from Black Friday to Cyber Monday!  They are all $14 with free shipping for those three days!  Great deal!

Review: Dr.’s Remedy Nail Polish

I have four little girls, so good nail polish is incredibly important to us!  I was thrilled to try out Dr.’s Remedy to see what I thought!

My Thoughts

I got FIVE different colors in the mail and they are ALL awesome!  I was just hoping for some pretty polishes that would strengthen my unhealthy nails and I got so much more!  They are big bottles!  We’re not talking the $1 Wet n Wilds by any means!  They are .5 fl oz.  They have Tea Tree Oil, Vitamins, and Wheat Protein!  They have NO Dibutylphthalate, Toluene, or Formaldehyde!  We opened them up and although they still have the nail polish smell, it isn’t strong at all!  I was able to paint mine and all four of my girls’ nails and there was no after smell!  I was comfortable even painting my baby’s nails, because there weren’t all of those harsh chemicals!  I just painted her toenails (while she was sleeping).  I still wouldn’t suggest painting baby/toddler’s fingernails, especially if they suck their thumb, but my 2-year-old (resident thumb-sucker) did have her nails painted and the thumb she sucks is now paint-less.  So, you can use it as a deterrent to help stop thumb-sucking (because they’ll lose their nail color).  The colors are very vibrant!  My nails are already feeling stronger and healthier (after only a week)!  I LOVE them!

My daughter’s nails, using all of the colors to make flowers.

They are $17 each here.

Giveaway: Green Babies Body Care Line

I was thrilled to try out this baby body care line!  Green Babies body care sounded like something I should be very interested in as a parent!

About Green Babies (from their website)

Green Babies ®, the original organic baby clothing brand, has a new baby on the way: a value-driven, values-conscious children’s body care line.  Since 1994, Green Babies ® has offered an extensive line of natural and organic baby products, including certified organic cotton clothing, wooden toys and natural parenting books.

Just born, Green Babies™ body care products, including Baby Me Shampoo & Wash, Energizing Bubble Bath, Calming Bubble Bath, Smooth Me Detangler and Lotion Potion Moisturizer, will be available at Whole Foods Markets throughout the Northeast, select specialty retail stores and www.greenbabies.com.  The new body care line is plant and fruit derived, vegan, hypo-allergenic and tear-free. Developed in the spirit that every baby is beautiful and deserves the best, safest and most irritant-free products that won’t break the budget, the products do not contain synthetic fragrances, dyes, sulfates, parabens or phthalates.

On the frontlines of the organic movement, mom of three Lynda Fassa conceived Green Babies ® when she found a dearth of healthy baby products for her then newborn. A former Ford Model, Lynda wasn’t always the crunchy-granola type, but “greened up” her act while pregnant with her first daughter—veggies and organic smoothies replaced diet soda and cheap takeout.

My Thoughts

I used the bubble baths and it bubbles very nicely!  My kids love bubbles, so that was very important!  It is healthy, so I wasn’t worried about my baby eating the bubbles (just a few)!  The shampoo and body wash was fantastic!  It has a nice, light smell and was much easier to get out than other shampoos!  I wasn’t worried about any getting in her eyes, because it really is tear-free!  It kept her hair nice and soft!  The lotion went a loooong way!  So, just use a little bit!  I really liked that it was natural, but still had some of that tell-tale baby scent that I love!  The scents are all very nice, and not overpowering!  I really appreciated that!  All together, I think this line is fantastic!  It works great and isn’t a bad price for a green product!

Buy it!

You can buy the products in their line:  Energizing or Calming Bubble Bath, Shampoo & Wash, Smooth Me Detangler, and Lotion Potion Moisturizer for $8.99-$10.99 each here!

Review: When Technology Fails, Revised and Expanded

When Technology Fails (Revised & Expanded): A Manual for Self-Reliance, Sustainability, and Surviving the Long Emergency [Paperback] is a fantastic book for those that are worried about the future!  There is a ton of information that will help you prepare for the future that may happen!

About the Book (from Amazon)

There’s never been a better time to “be prepared.” Matthew Stein’s comprehensive primer on sustainable living skills—from food and water to shelter and energy to first-aid and crisis-management skills—prepares you to embark on the path toward sustainability. But unlike any other book, Stein not only shows you how to live “green” in seemingly stable times, but to live in the face of potential disasters, lasting days or years, coming in the form of social upheaval, economic meltdown, or environmental catastrophe.

When Technology Fails covers the gamut. You’ll learn how to start a fire and keep warm if you’ve been left temporarily homeless, as well as the basics of installing a renewable energy system for your home or business. You’ll learn how to find and sterilize water in the face of utility failure, as well as practical information for dealing with water-quality issues even when the public tap water is still flowing. You’ll learn alternative techniques for healing equally suited to an era of profit-driven malpractice as to situations of social calamity. Each chapter (a survey of the risks to the status quo; supplies and preparation for short- and long-term emergencies; emergency measures for survival; water; food; shelter; clothing; first aid, low-tech medicine, and healing; energy, heat, and power; metalworking; utensils and storage; low-tech chemistry; and engineering, machines, and materials) offers the same approach, describing skills for self-reliance in good times and bad.

Fully revised and expanded—the first edition was written pre-9/11 and pre-Katrina, when few Americans took the risk of social disruption seriously—When Technology Fails ends on a positive, proactive note with a new chapter on “Making the Shift to Sustainability,” which offers practical suggestions for changing our world on personal, community and global levels.

My Thoughts

I think this book is fantastic!  I will be the one reading it with a flashlight when the electricity goes out (which happens plenty in the stormy Spring)!  I like that it gives information about being greener and better self-reliance.  I think that anything that we can do as a family to save money and resources is fantastic!  And as a paranoid mom, I also like knowing how to best survive if something crazy happens and we are stuck in the basement of our house, because a tornado came through.  I also like the lists of things to prepare, such as the 72-hour kit list.  More than likely that will be what we need if there is an emergency, something that we can grab and run with.  It also has First Aid Information, which would be helpful if doctors are not readily available.  There are some things that I didn’t agree with, but for the most part, this book is a great resource to have!

About the Author

Matthew Stein holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He is an engineer, author and building contractor. He has also worked as a schoolteacher, carpenter, and rock climbing and ski instructor. As the owner of Aloha Aina Builders, Stein has built hurricane resistant, energy efficient and environmentally friendly homes. As a mechanical engineer and president of Stein Design, he has designed consumer water filtration devices, commercial water filtration systems, photovoltaic roofing panels, medical bacteriological filters, drinking fountains, emergency chemical drench systems, computer disk drives, portable fiberglass buildings and automated assembly machinery for Open Energy, Hewlett Packard, Seagate, Plantronics, Duraflame, Haws, and IGT, among other companies. He currently resides with his wife Josie in the High Sierra Mountains near Lake Tahoe, CA. Additionally, Stein holds a number of US patents and was a National Merit Scholar. For many years, Stein has pursued avid interests in renewable energy, alternative healing, sustainable growth, and preventative medicine. He is available for lectures and workshops. Check out his green building and mechanical engineering website and his book’s website.

Stein’s outdoor experience includes considerable backpacking and camping (starting at age 5), alpine ascents in the Canadian Rockies and High Sierras, solo winter ascents of peaks in the High Sierras and numerous Yosemite Valley hard rock climbs (including several Half Dome and El Capitan big walls). He volunteers his services as a guide and guide trainer for blind skiers with the Ski for Light blind cross-country skier program.
