Levi just took his first steps a couple weeks ago, and he’s already toddling around across the room. Besides worrying about him getting into everything, now we have a new concern: protecting his feet.

pediped® footwearwas created in 2004 by Angela and Brian Edgeworth. After their first daughter Caroline was born, Angela started to do a lot of thinking about footwear and the kind of shoes that would be best for her child. She wanted a shoe that was comfortable and stylish and that could be worn both indoors and out. Most importantly, she wanted a shoe that was healthy for her daughter’s feet.
I had the opportunity to try out the Sydney Originals with Levi. The Originals are designed for kids just learning how to walk and are made of soft, flexible leather.
The shoes were cute and a nice, bright color. It’s not one I would normally choose, but it’s actually grown on me quite a bit. We took Levi out on the front walk to test them out. Levi wasn’t really sure what to make of having these strange things on his feet, but then he quickly forgot about them and stood up.

After he got tired of standing, he switched to crawling, since at this stage, it’s still faster than trying to walk places.
The shoes were great. They protected the soft bottoms of his feet from the warm concrete. They were easy to take on and off and are super stylish, too. Although they are great for protecting feet outdoors, I don’t recommend using them inside. Since the soles are a nice, smooth, soft leather, they don’t grip the floor well. On carpet or on hardwood, they do slide around. These work much better on rough or uneven surfaces, like out in the yard, on the sidewalk, or at the park.
pediped offers a wide range of styles great for summer. I didn’t think I’d need shoes for Levi this summer since he’s just starting to walk, but I’ve quickly learned about the dangers of hot pavement and sticks, rocks, and other small irritants that can hurt his delicate feet.

They also give back to the community through the pediped Foundation, which has given nearly $1 million dollars over the past 5 years to support children in need.
