Top 10 Online Return Policies

Return policies for some merchants are more complex than income tax laws. Buy online and you’ll spend umpteen hours working your way through phone trees and waiting on hold to talk to a customer “service” representative. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a refund. Otherwise, it’s a store credit from a store you may not wish to patronize again.

Humorously, many of these merchants claim to offer “hassle free” returns. Some retailers, on the other hand, genuinely believe in making the process as pain-free as possible. FreeShipping did some research and came up with the following top 10 online return policies.

1. endless.com
The online-only shoe merchant gives shoppers a full 365 days to return unwanted or flawed footwear with guaranteed free shipping both ways on domestic orders. Use the endless.com online returns center for proper processing.

2. L.L.Bean
There’s no time limit on returns with L.L. Bean and no authorization is required. Simply download and fill out an online form or use the form printed on your packing slip. Return shipping is free for L.L.Bean Visa Cardmembers; just use a prepaid label for fast and free service.

3. Shoebacca.com
As with endless.com, Shoebacca provides totally free shipping both ways and a 365-day window in which to return or exchange your unwanted, unworn footwear or defective products. Returns must have the original tags still attached and shipped in the original packaging.

4. Lands’ End
Want to return a purchase and replace it with a different size or color? Lands’ End offers free return shipping with no end date for re-orders. For returns without an exchange, use the Easy Return Label for a flat shipping fee of $6.95. To get the best value, look for Lands’ End free shipping codes when you purchase, and return unwanted items to any Sears store to avoid return shipping costs.

5. Zappos
Here’s another great shoe deal. Zappos free shipping is good both for purchases and returns. Whether you’re unhappy with a purchase or simply change your mind, Zappos will provide a full refund or exchange within 365 days of purchase. Returns must be unworn (unless defective) and shipped in the original packaging.

6. Overland
Use the Overland free shipping label provided online for a free return via FedEx. Purchases made with a credit card are charged back within 24 hours of receipt and refund checks are issued for orders paid for with cash or a check.

7. Macy’s
No receipt is necessary when returning a Macy’s purchase because the merchant has a program that identifies products in their system. The department store provides a full refund or exchange within 180 days of purchase, except for jewelry, which is limited to 30 days. You can mail the item back or bring your purchase into any Macy’s store for a refund.

8. Kohl’s
Kohl’s free shipping offers come and go, but you can return your purchase any time for any reason. Lost your receipt? They’ll let you exchange your purchase for a comparably priced item or give you store credit. No cash back is available, however, without a receipt.

9. Costco
Here’s a rare deal for a warehouse store. Costco will not only refund the cost of your purchase but it will also pick up the tab for shipping and handling. Just return the item to any Costco outlet and they’ll remit your refund in your original form of payment. Most items may be returned at any time with the original receipts attached and in the original packaging. Most electronics, however, must be returned within 90 days.

10. Toys R Us and Babies R Us
Children change their minds so fast it can make your head spin, so a hassle-free return policy can make all the difference. The “R” Us folks accept returns within 90 days for cash back, if you paid with check or cash. Shipping costs also are refunded, but online purchases must be returned within 30 days and electronics in 45 days. No receipt is necessary if the item was purchased with plastic or from a gift registry. Shipping costs are refunded if the product is defective or damaged.

Do you consider yourself #frugal?

So, I am finding it really strange that for the most part the people on my deal site are not the same people as on this site.  I am very curious as to why that is.  Have you just not added the deal site to your feed reader?  Are you not interested in my homeschooling deals?  Maybe you hate all those drug store match ups… what is it that keep you from my new site?

5 Daily #Budgeting Tips for the Family

frugal-money

Budgeting successfully is great for your financial health and is particularly important when there are debts to repay. Debt can feel like a real burden, but working towards the goal of becoming debt-free can be highly motivating. Here are five simple budgeting tips that all the family can try to stick to.

1. Work out your budget

Once you’ve taken care of your monthly bills, the cost of food, petrol and all the important things, including debt repayments, you should have a pretty clear idea of the amount of money you have left over to spend on non-essentials for the month. Divide that amount by 31 (or 30, or 28, or even 29!). According to these budgeting tips, you could make that your daily budget limit.

2. Limit what you spend

Give a child pocket money and they might spend it all in one go then go back to their parents and ask for more money – and realize they can’t have any more until the next pocket money day!

These are valuable budgeting tips that all kids should learn. You could apply the same logic to your own finances and make a point of spending within limits during any given day or week.

3. Get a piggy bank

Piggy banks teach children about the value of money – so get your kids a piggy bank and let them watch their savings grow. Get your children to choose their own piggy bank and/or decorate it so they know it’s theirs. They should really enjoy the buzz of knowing they have their own money.

4. Get smart with your savings

Grown-ups often don’t have piggy banks, but we do have savings and investments. If your savings account isn’t giving you the return you’d like, consider investing. Always get advice from a financial specialist and shop around first. If you’re happy to take a risk, your investment could yield a big pay-back. Lower-risk investments generally yield a lower return, but your investment is potentially safer. Just remember that your investments could go down in value as well as up!

5. Get everyone involved!

If you are trying to budget or save money for your future, everyone needs to be on the same page. There’s little point cutting back on spending on yourself if your children still get expensive treats.

Getting your kids and/or partner onside to work with you and support you to save money can be incredibly encouraging – and following these budgeting tips could make it a lot easier to succeed!

GIVEAWAY: Ditch the Joneses, Discover Your Family Book

About the book:

Thousands have done it, You can too!

We’ve all felt the pressure to “keep up with the Joneses”.  Often it seems like it takes two incomes to survive in today’s economy.  But what if that is not true for your family?  What if your family can thrive on less than two full-time salaries and flourish by spending more time together?

Tackling these tough questions using faith-based views and values, this book gives parents encouraging and realistic ideas for a healthy and solid family.

In this book, Brese Doebler challenges the two income assumption, and takes you on a journey toward the joy of discovering your family.

My Thoughts:

I found this book to be a very easy read. Cathi’s writing style is very concise and to the point. She includes many tips and tricks for learning how to survive and thrive on one income, even if you are already living on one income with kids. From personal experience it was very difficult to lose my income, but we made the decision based on the costs associated with me returning to work(day care, gas, insurance, lose of family time). I wish I had known about this book before I decided to have kids. One of the most beneficial tips she gives is to live off one income and save the other. Imagine the savings if we all lived that way!

Within the book she provides worksheets and questions to help you determine if this is the path you want for your family and the quotes and insights from families who have chosen this path are very helpful and reassuring. I love that she gives all perspectives and doesn’t just focus on the families that have made the decision to have one parent stay home. She covers everything from making the decision, to preparing, at whatever stage, to head back into the workforce.

This book is the perfect read for anyone who is thinking of having a family or if you have already have kids.

For those wishing to take the lessons of the book even further, Cathi has put together a Workbook on CD which is available on her website.

The book is available for purchase on Cathi’s website for $14.99, and most online bookstores such as Amazon. It is also available as an ebook for Amazon’s Kindle and the Barnes and Noble Nook.
