Beef and Salsa Casserole

I’ve been a fan of making homemade casseroles for years. Not only do they feed a crowd, but they’re also a great way to ensure that you’ll have leftovers.

Reheating leftover casseroles is a simple way to stretch a meal – and make the ingredients stretch further, too!

You can easily make this hearty beef casserole for a Mexican-themed dinner or a fun fiesta-themed meal at home. Just be sure to have toppings on hand so everyone can enjoy the flavors they want.

What side dishes pair with beef casserole recipes?

A refreshing garden salad with a variety of leafy greens offers a crisp contrast to the casserole’s rich flavors. Steamed or roasted vegetables, like carrots, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts, are healthful and colorful.

For those who enjoy a starchier accompaniment, garlic mashed potatoes or buttery egg noodles can round out the dinner plate.

Rustic bread, such as a crusty baguette, is a delightful option for sopping up savory juices and adding a textural difference.

For a comforting finish, consider a side of roasted sweet potatoes that add a hint of sweetness to balance the robustness of beef casserole dishes.

How do I reheat leftover casserole?

Reheating a leftover casserole can be as much an art as preparing it, ensuring the meal retains its flavor and texture. The best method is to utilize your oven to reheat it evenly without drying it out.

Begin by preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Cover the casserole with aluminum foil to prevent the top from burning and to lock in moisture. Place the dish in the oven once it’s reached the desired temperature.

Heating times can vary based on the casserole’s thickness, but generally, it should take approximately 20-30 minutes. It’s ready when the internal temperature hits 165 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring it’s heated through.

Remove the foil in the last 5-10 minutes of reheating for a crispier top. Always check the center of the casserole, as that’s the last part to warm up thoroughly.
