Win: Junior Ride-Along Party for 10 at Richard Petty Driving Experience!

Junior Ride-Alongs let children (6-13 years old and at least 48” tall) Ride-Along shotgun in a 2 seat NASCAR race car for 3 laps. The program has been very successful and children are ecstatic when they climb out of the car. image thumb16 Win: Junior Ride Along Party for 10 at Richard Petty Driving Experience!

At least, that is what they say!  In about a month, I will know exactly what the kids think because we are going this summer to Orlando and the kids are going to get to ride!  Needless to say, they are stoked!  Seriously, we have known for a few days that they would get this awesome opportunity and Tripp (13) hasn’t stopped smiling!

They just expanded the Junior Ride-Along Experience program to the Daytona International Speedway location as well as Charlotte Motor Speedway location.

To celebrate this expansion, we launched a “Draw The King” contest where kids can submit their hand draw version of The King for a chance to win a Junior Ride-Along party for 10 AND their drawing on the hood of our Junior Ride-Along cars.

The Junior Ride-Along program at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Daytona International Speedway and Walt Disney World Speedway provides children, who are 6-13 years of age and at least 48 inches in height, the opportunity to experience real-life racing excitement while they ride shotgun with a professional driving instructor for three thrilling laps in a specially equipped two-seat NASCAR race car.

The Junior Ride-Along program is generally is offered between 9 am to 4 pm on days we are on track on a first come, first served basis.

Children must submit their drawings before May 31st.

Disclaimer:  Though any opinions are strictly my own, my kids will be receiving complimentary passes for a Junior Ride-Along while we are in Orlando.  However, this piece was written out of the goodness of my heart.  No money exchanged hands and writing this post is not a condition of the free passes!

Baby Shower Ideas for Boys

It’s a Boy! If you are planning a baby shower for someone who is having a boy, there are many different themes that you can use. Always keep in mind the hobbies and passions of the mother when coming up with a theme. For example, maybe if the mother has a passion for reading, you ask all of the guests to bring a new book for the baby in lieu of a card.

clip image002 thumb3 Baby Shower Ideas for Boys

It is always nice to tie in the theme of a baby shower to the theme of the nursery. That way some of the decorations used can possibly be taken home and used in the nursery. If an animal theme, stuffed animals placed on the tables can easily be incorporated into the nursery decor. If airplane themed nursery, some over-sized airplane decals will look great on the nursery walls.

Mustaches are HUGE these days. Host a "little man" shower filled with chocolate mustaches and bow tie garland.

The baby blue robin’s egg is a popular theme for a baby shower for a boy. Some of the decorations can be little nests. Other baby animals are popular for baby showers, such as baby ducks, which could be made into a bath-time themed party. Find some cute Rubber Ducky Centerpieces that are easy to make.

Lions and tigers and bears – oh my! If you like the animal theme, how about a jungle theme? Great idea for the boys. Some of the decorations can be little stuffed animals of monkeys, elephants, zebras and more, that the mother to be can take home and add to the nursery.

A nautical themed shower is a popular one for a boy. Decorate with lots of sailing and anchors. You can serve doughnuts as life preservers among your other party food.

One fun way to decide the theme of a baby shower is if you already know the name of the baby. If Jonah, you can have a whale theme. If the boy’s name will be Noah, Noah’s Ark is always such a cute theme. A great idea for a baby shower even when the baby’s name is not Noah.

Sports themed showers are popular for boys. Especially if it is a shower in which the men are invited or are planning a party close to a large sports event like the super bowl. A baseball themed party can include decorations like foam fingers and banners. The cake can be in the shape of a ball diamond and you can serve hot dogs, peanuts and cracker jacks for fun foods. Also, golf themed baby showers can be lots of fun, especially if the mother or father loves the game. Have white cake balls instead of a cake. Planters will with grass make easy, cute centerpieces.

So if you are in charge of a baby shower in the near future for a boy, take your time and pick out the right theme. And you can use this Baby Shower Planning Guide to help you through the process. And check out these 10 tips to host a baby shower on a budget.

10 Killer Cooking Hacks For You!

Finding shortcuts in the kitchen can save you money, energy, and time while also making the whole cooking experience more enjoyable. Here are 10 killer cooking hacks that will make your time in the kitchen easier.

clip image002 thumb2 10 Killer Cooking Hacks For You!

Cut the Acidity of Tomatoes

If you’re like most families or amateur cooks, pasta and tomato sauce are staples in your kitchen and on your dinner tables. Fresh tomatoes, canned tomatoes, and sauces have different levels of acidity and can really vary in flavor profiles. If you find yourself making a sauce or adding fresh tomatoes to a dish and it is too acidic, there are a couple of tricks to cut it back. Try adding a pinch of sugar, some grated cheese, or milk/cream to the recipe. This will cut the tomatoes acidity and make the dish more balanced in flavor.

Double It

If you are seeking to stretch your dollar and cut your time in the kitchen, chose recipes that serve double-duty and can be eaten in a variety of ways. Chili, for instance, can be eaten straight, over pasta or on hot dogs. Once you find a good multi-purpose recipe; double it. Freeze what you don’t eat quickly. It will save you time and money.

The Amazing Non-Stick Spray

Non-stick cooking spray can be used in a variety of ways beyond the obvious. You can spray measuring cups and bowls before using them to make sure ingredients slide right out. You can also spray wraps and and foil before freezing items. This will keep the wrap and foil from sticking when they freeze.

Baking Soda Everywhere

Baking soda has a lot of uses. You’re probably already aware of its use in the freezer and refrigerator to absorb odors, but it also is found in many recipes and can even be used to create self-rising flour in the event you don’t have yeast. Another good trick; use baking powder and water to get the smell of onions or garlic off your hands.

Cut Down Trips to the Trash

Keeping a bowl for all of your cuttings, scraps and trash handy while you do prep work can save a lot of time walking back and forth to the trash can. If you don’t believe it, try tracking how much time you spend going back and forth next time you are cooking. You’ll be amazed.

Boiling Water

Boiling water is a part of so many recipes and who hasn’t stood there waiting for the water to boil while people go hungry? A good idea for eliminating the wait is to make sure the tap water is as hot as possible before filling the pot. This will cut the heat time drastically. Also, think about setting the pot of water on the stove before you even start cooking. This way it will be ready for you when the time comes. Just be careful not to allow it to boil over or evaporate.

No More Tears

To reduce the amount of gases released by onions when you cut them, put them in the freezer for ten to fifteen minutes before cutting. And always remember to breath through your mouth when cutting. Both of these tricks will cut down the tears.

Garlic Whack

You’ve probably seen chefs do this on television; before cutting garlic cloves, place the flat side of the knife down on top of it and give it a good whack. This will allow you simply pull the skin off for easier cutting.

Prep Work

Take a page out of a professional chef’s playbook and do your cutting and prep-work in advance of actually getting to the steps of cooking. By separating out the tasks and doing them in advance, you’ll find yourself much more prepared to focus on the cooking tasks and really follow recipes more closely. Stopping to cut, chop, mix and dice while trying to cook can break momentum and create stress.

Mise en Place

This is an old cooking term that builds on the prep work theme above. It’s a French phrase that means "everything in its place." It’s a great rule to live by in the kitchen. Keeping an organized and logical cooking station where everything has its place and is set up in advance, can drastically cut the time you spend looking for things, traveling back and forth to the drawers, cabinets, and trash.
