Miller Manor: Renovation Days 3 and 4

Sharing is caring!

So, I didn’t check in yesterday but that was because I was SLAMMED! So stinking busy and I am not sure it is ever going to end! Monday my Holiday Gift Guides start! Oh my word, I am not ready! LOL! Anyway, the house… we have gotten a ton more done – can’t wait until I can show things that are done and pretty as opposed to things that are being ripped up. Ya’ know?

Miller Manor Days 3 and 4

The electrician came out and started running the heck out of some wires in the house.  He isn’t done, but can’t come back for several days.  Hopefully, by the time he comes back we will be ready for him!  I have to rip out the sheet-rock in the old kitchen so he can make the old wiring safe to wall up!  That is my only task from him.  I believe we are going to get to it today.  So glad we already have all the cabinets removed!

The Contractor (Bayou Construction) came out and started fixing messed up wood and prepping the house for new/replacement siding.

Electrical

My Mom, Dad, and I removed door molding, baseboards, and quarter round.  We also re-stacked the weird panel flooring so it is out of the way – I believe we are going to put it on the walls in the garage.  Anyway, then we removed all the nails from the salvageable pieces and stacked the pieces so they could be used again.  All the round archways are being changed to regular doorways because they are too short.  That meant all the wood stuff had to be removed from them.

Fun times!!  So, see the brown door in the top picture?  That is a door…. inside a wall!  Seriously!  We only found it because some vandals had busted a small piece of sheet rock out.  Isn’t that awesome!?  It is in a steel frame and sealed totally shut, but we are going to keep it there and make it more obvious.  I think the plan is to frame up around it and create a built-in right there.  The door will be the back wall of the new shelving system.  Isn’t that a great talking point?  Look, here is another picture so you can really get an idea.  Anyone now how to get that paint streak off without ruining the stain of the wood?

the door to nowhere

Remember the pretty lights that were on the front of my house?  Turns out they were not salvageable. 🙁  I was able to keep the globes, but the electrical parts were no good AND we couldn’t get the wiring out to replace it.  So, now I am trying to get the globe portion cleaned up so I can use it in my house.  I will get some pictures of them soon because I would love some ideas on ways to use them!

In the meantime, I am shopping for new front door lights… so many options!!

Goodbye weird arches

As I said earlier, we are getting rid of the arches – you would not believe the pieces of wood they had to build these things.  My contractor said he swears the people that used to own this house had a salvage yard – everything in the house looks like it was originally scraps. LOL!

Congratulations! I just found out about your new house and I think it's awesome! We needed to do tons of work to our house when we moved in and while it was a pain, we did get to make it perfect for us! Sounds like you are doing the same. Following along!
