NY Toy Fair Reviews Week #1 (NYC)

I had a fantastic time at the New York Toy Fair this year. I saw even more than I did last year and had a ton of fun playing with all the products and new launches! Some of them I can tell you about, but others I am sworn to secrecy until their debut! For the next few weeks, I will highlight a few companies (some rookies and some veterans) and share what stood out for me as being exciting, fresh, and of course… fun!

B Toys- Symphony in B.

This entire company has been a staple in my house for some time, but the Symphony in B. really is a stand-out for me. Winner of Toy of the Year in 2013, your child is the conductor! Choose up to 6 instruments to put in the orchestra pit and hear them play together. Then change up the instruments and hear the musical transformation.

My daughter is 4 and can literally sit with this for an hour composing, dancing, and singing along. She loves the familiarity in the songs she knows yet loves the freedom of composing her own pieces. Trust me, this one will not collect ANY dust in your toy bin!

eeBoo Games- Travel Size Candy Matching Game and About Face

The Candy Matching Game boasts 24 kinds of candy to match including candy corn and conversation hearts, jellybeans and salt-water taffy, truffles and nonpareils. This game is a twist on memory and you must have keen observation skills to play! With 24 pairs to match, pieces are the perfect travel size and comes with a sliding tray for neat storage.

This summer when we travel, it will be in my bag of tricks for the car and plane!

About Face allows for the creation of  endless faces made up with photographs of everyday objects. Leaves, ribbons, coins, seashells, paper clips and other objects one might find when she is out and about combine to literally make millions of faces. Some are quite expressive! In all there are 160 object images and this game sharpens recognition, memory, and observation skills.

I also challenge both my kids to make faces that are brightly colored, or made of things found only in nature.

My daughter loves the book that is in this set. This interactive book introduces younger children to the characters of Team Ten. After meeting each number, they learn how Zero keeps the team together.

I met with the creator of NumbersAlive! at the Toy Fair. Since receiving her Ph.D in Statistics, Dr. Rebecca Klemm, The Numbers Lady, has specialized in explaining mathematical concepts via every-day simple language. Dr. Klemm has taught students grades 7 through graduate school. In 2010, she created NumbersAlive! to introduce children to math using the fun and friendly number characters of Team Ten.

Dr. Klemm strongly believes that numbers rule the world. She created her products to introduce numbers and the importance of math to children at a young age in order to help them develop into global citizens of the world with numerical literacy.

I’ll be back next week with more of my favorites!
