Well, first off… Welcome to the world of easier baking. Bread machines can help you make moist delicious bread in less time. Here are a few tips to using these machines.

A bread machine has several advantages, not the first of which is saving you time. Making bread from scratch can take lots of preparation and hours to complete. If you had a Saturday when you had nothing else going on that would be fine but most of us don’t have schedules that allow us to perform such an activity.

For that, there is the bread machine. Now, before you use one, make sure that you read the manual from cover to cover. It will give you tips and also let you learn how to use your particular model of bread machine.

How to stay out of trouble with your bread machine

The first way is reading the manual. Next, get to know your bread machine before actually using it. Look it over and press buttons to see exactly what they do. Unless the instructions explicitly tell you not to do something, then have at it and become familiar with your product.

Here are some other Bread Machine Tricks:

1. Wash your bread basket and other removable parts first – Dust can collect on items from sitting in a box. Before using any of your pieces, wash them with soap and hot water and allow to dry. Be sure you know how all parts fit together so you can put them back together again.

2. Measure your ingredients properly – If your bread machine comes with measuring cups, use those instead of your own. The ones that accompany the machine probably measure differently than your set at home. Measuring out too much or too little of an ingredient will affect the taste and look of your final product.

3. Avoid using hot liquids in your dough – The machine simulates all the steps of regular bread baking, including heating up the dough so it will rise. Using hot liquids from the outset can over-stimulate the yeast and ruin your bread.

4. Know your conversions – If you have a traditional bread recipe and want to convert it know what you are working with. For instance, different size bread pans will make different size bread loaves. A 10 cup pan will make a one pound loaf. Anything that will be bigger than that will make a mess. Also, measure the amount of yeast differently for white and wheat flours.

5. Cool your bread – Allow it to cool before slicing it. Be careful removing the bread from the pan when it is hot. You can allow it to cool in the pan if you wish.

Get to know your bread machine before you use it to avoid mishaps.

Bread machines can make baking easier. Know what features you need in yours so that you buy the proper one for your home.

Above are just a  few bread machines that I would recommend.  They span all price ranges.  If you already have a bread machine, you are on your way!

Over the next few weeks, I will be bringing you several kitchen tips to help you use your bread machine to its full potential.
