One of the most romantic days of a couple’s life is the day they celebrate a special anniversary. I know this because I have celebrated 13 of them with my husband and will be doing a 14th in less than a month!
However, it doesn’t have to be a wedding anniversary – after all, some couples celebrate the day they first met one year ago, two years, and so on – but often these couples are thinking about their wedding day a lot of times.
There are several ways a couple can celebrate that special day, and not all of them have to involve just the couple. Families with children can sometimes get in on the act. The anniversary can be romantic for just the couple or celebratory for the entire family.
Here are some ideas to celebrate that special day:
Food for Thought
Did you have your first date at a special restaurant? Even if it wasn’t swanky, elegant or romantic, maybe your first date was at a hole-in-the-wall place that had great food. If you’re lucky the restaurant may still be open, and if you tell them ahead of time that it’s your anniversary they may have something special for you.
If the restaurant you went to first is not open, then think of something romantic where you can get dressed up and go have a great evening on your own.
Lodging Ideas
Do you live in a city that has a hotel with elegant rooms? Maybe they have a suite with a romantic view of the city? It could be a Chicago high-rise with a view of the lake, or it could be a New York hotel with views down to Times Square or Central Park.
Check with the hotel and see if they have any anniversary specials. You would be surprised at just how many hotels offer something where for one night, couples can have a romantic dinner in the hotel restaurant, champagne and chocolates in the room, etc. It is the perfect way to spend some time alone and recreate the ambience and mood.
Have a Picnic
If you have a big family, chances are you might want to make the anniversary into more than just a romantic day. Make it something the whole family can enjoy. Your children can tag along if they are young, or maybe your children can bring their families.
Encourage your friends to get personalized anniversary gifts, such as pictures of the couple in a nice portrait complete with frame. Someone could write a poem about the couple, deliver it as a speech at the picnic and then give it to the couple as a framed copy.
Take a Trip
This works well as a couple or as a family. You may want to visit a theme park, like Disneyland or something else in the California or Florida area (or anywhere in the country that has one). The Disney parks do feature babysitting programs at the resort hotels, where the kids can be occupied by something fun if the parents want to have dinner at a romantic restaurant.
The nice thing is the children can take part in the anniversary plans if you visit a theme park and not feel left out. And you can make great new memories via pictures, video clips, etc. With the advent of You Tube and DVD programs these days, ways to keep memories of the trip alive are plenty.
Celebrating an anniversary is a great way to create new memories and remember old ones.
How do you celebrate the life you share with your loved one?
