Fun LEGO Ideas for Kids

Sharing is caring!

While you can use LEGO bricks to build vehicles, buildings, and more, you can also use them for learning! This week I’m sharing with you 27 Lego Ideas and resources I’ve found online. There are tips here for using LEGO and DUPLO creations to reinforce math, spelling, writing, and engineering concepts!

Ask any child what they love to play with.  At least half of them are going to say “LEGOS!” In our family, the LEGO box is what my kids fight over the most. They love the challenge of coming up with a design, building it, and then seeing if it actually works.

How do LEGOs help with learning?

LEGO bricks may look like simple toys, but they are powerful learning tools hiding in plain sight. When children sit down to build, they are doing far more than stacking plastic pieces. They are planning, experimenting, solving problems, and learning how to think through challenges step by step. Whether following instructions or creating something entirely from imagination, kids practice persistence as they test ideas, make adjustments, and try again when something doesn’t work. That process builds critical thinking skills in a way that feels natural and fun.

LEGO play also supports academic development, especially in math and science. Counting bricks, recognizing patterns, understanding symmetry, and exploring measurement all happen organically during building. Spatial awareness grows as children visualize how pieces fit together and rotate structures in their minds before snapping them into place. These hands-on experiences make abstract concepts more concrete, which can strengthen understanding later in the classroom.
