Food N’ Me is a website designed to teach children and families how to make good food choices and eat healthier using games to teach us what is in the foods that we are eating. Smash Your Food is one of those games and now it is available on the iPad!
Watch your kids SMASH a burger, CRUSH a milkshake, EXPLODE a soda and POUND a pizza, all this fun while learning about nutrition.
Do your children really know how much sugar, salt and oil there is in foods they consume? Do you?
SMASH Your Food is a fun way for kids to learn about ‘commonly abused’ foods that contribute to excessive calorie consumption. A guessing game bursting with realism and surprise, SMASH Your Food uses HD video and real sound effects (“plink”, “tchh-tchh”, “glop”) – creating lasting impressions.
Designed for children ages 5-12 – Enjoyed by children of all ages.
- Choose from 40 foods to SMASH, on 5 levels – from doughnuts and burgers to full meals!
- High definition video – Yes we did do this to real food!
- Vivid sound effects – you can actually hear every squish, glop, fizz and pop!
- CRAZY FOOD! Unlock stacks of Crazy Food for even messier splats – there are 10 of these in the game!
- A compelling, fun way for children to get important health information while having a blast, and – there’s no mess to cleanup!
- Personalized nutrition tips and advice are emailed to parents as their children master each level.
We’ve had a chance to play around with the Smash Your Food game for the last week or so and we’ve been having some fun, watching all the different foods get squished! My two oldest children were really getting a kick out of the game of guessing what’s in each food. My daughter, who is 7, did quite a good job of guessing actually. Whereas my son, who is 5, guessed whatever number he could spin it too, so he could get to watching the smashing! I asked my daughter if she understood the point of the game and she said, “It’s to tell us about what is in the food, so we know that it’s bad for us.”. When I asked her if it would help her to make better food choices, she said yes but I’m not completely convinced that she would. Mostly because I make a lot of the choices for her still. But I do think she’s getting something out of the game and I guess in the long run that’s all that matters.
From and an adult perspective, while it’s fun to watch the food get smashed and see how close I can get to the actual numbers, it’s hard to do because the foods are not specific. They are generic listings like, “a burger”, “a strawberry milkshake” and “pancakes”. Since I read labels on the food that we eat and try to make as much as possible from scratch, I know that one box of pancake mix is not the same as another, neither are burgers from different fast food places or even a homemade burger. So for me it was frustrating to try and determine how much of each was in the different foods. But since that’s not the point of the game, it’s something I should get over !
