The Truth About a Total Hysterectomy in 2012!

Sharing is caring!

hysterectomy

So, I have PCOS and my Doctor has been on me for several years (every single time he has to surgically remove a golf-ball-sized cyst from my olive-sized ovary!) to have a full hysterectomy.  I have always had an excuse though!

  • But, I am only 27!
  • but I only have boys and might want that girl…
  • but, I am only 28!
  • But, anything could happen and I could want more children!
  • But, I don’t think it is necessary!
  • but, I am only 29…
You get the picture.  This year, I tried again, “But, I am only 32!”  He cleverly responded, “you’re not ONLY 32!  You are 32 with 3 kids!  When are you going to give up the pain and do something for you?”

Oh ouch! He is so honest!  Guess that is why I have kept him as my gynecologist for 16 years!

So, I agree and I have a complete, 100%, take-it-all, I have nothing left, hysterectomy on February 20, 2012 – 1 month and one day after my 32nd birthday!

OH MY GOSH!

So, let’s go back.. I take back the “he is so honest” thing! He told me…

  • that it would be so easy
  • that it is a thousand times easier than a c-section
  • that I would feel great in no time
  • that I would be so happy I did it!
  • that there would be no more bleeding
  • that I wouldn’t have to take that little pill anymore

OK, move ahead a couple weeks…

  • it was NOT easy
  • it hurt REALLY BADLY – a c-section is much easier than this
  • what does he consider “no time” it has been a month and I certainly don’t feel great!?
  • it is SUPER depressing – people my age are having babies and I can’t!
  • my hormones are all over the place
  • if I wake up sopping wet with sweat one more night, I am going to hunt him down!
  • NO bleeding?? ha!! I have been bleeding for 4 weeks now!
  • No little pills?? Hum.. no birth control pills maybe, but he neglected to mention the hormones that I would need to take for the REST OF MY LIFE!

Now, the present… Yesterday was 5 weeks post-surgery:

  • I feel a million times better!
  • I am so glad I am not having babies now!
  • The bleeding has stopped and I never have to worry about that mess again for the rest of my life!
  • Hey insurance covers hormones, but not birth control! I am saving about 30 bucks a month on that mess!

I am still not 100%, but for the most part I think I am.  If I stay on my feet for too long (like that 15 hour field trip) then I am flat exhausted and my tummy is back to looking like I am 6 months pregnant!  Then, I spend the entire next day in a zombie like state while not in a comatose state.

So, don’t let your Doctor fool you, he doesn’t know!  He has never had a hysterectomy!  Tee hee… let me say, the very best resource I found while spending 20+ hours in bed and 18 of those crying and sweating was HysterSisters.  If you have to have or recently had a hysterectomy.  Please go to that forum!
