Frozen Seasoning Blend (for your freezer OAMC)

DSCN4608 300x224 Frozen Seasoning Blend (for your freezer OAMC)

ready for the freezer

**NOTE FROM KELLI:  This is my 5th most popular recipe on this site!  Be sure to go see the rest of the top ten most popular recipes at Southern mom Cooks!

I make my own seasoning blend and use it in the majority of my recipes.  I do different things each time depending on what is on sale, what someone gives us, what we pick up at the local market, etc.  This time (when I was actually taking pictures) I used:

  • Purple Onion
  • Yellow Onion
  • Red Bell pepper
  • Yellow Bell pepper
  • Orange Bell pepper

I have also used the above and added any of the following:

  • Green Bell pepper
  • Celery
  • Garlic
  • Mushrooms
  • Green Onion
  • White Onion
  • Carrots

It is actually a pretty simple process that I have perfected over the years.  I also need to tell you the story of seasoning blend and our Exchange Student from back in 2006! So, be sure to scroll on down to see that! icon smile Frozen Seasoning Blend (for your freezer OAMC)

How to make homemade seasoning blend!

Step One:  Gather the fresh ingredients that you want in your seasoning blend.

Step Two: Chop everything up and put it in a big bowl, then mix well

Chopped Veggies

Step Three: Put scoops full of mix into lightly sprayed muffin pans, fill each “muffin” 3/4 of the way with water, and stick in the freezer for a couple hour **see picture at the top of this post**
Step Four:  Pop the muffin shaped things out and stick them in a freezer bag to use the next time you need some flavor in your cooking!

Pull out just what you need!

Now the funny seasoning blend story:

I had chopped everything and put it in the fridge because I was also cooking supper.  I planned to get it separated that night, but was tired by the time supper, baths, etc were done.  So, I just set the bowl in the fridge and decided to separate it all out the next day.  Our exchange student got up in the middle of the night and wanted a snack.  He saw that bowl of “salad” in the firdge and fixed himself a full bowl of it!  Poor thing, he got really sick from it! HA HA! It cured him, though!  He never ate in the middle of the night again. icon smile Frozen Seasoning Blend (for your freezer OAMC)

  1. What kind of things do you put the seasoning blend in? I love the idea of just having to pop it out of the freezer and right into whatever you are cooking.

Stopping by from Tip Junkie to say hi :)

    • So many things from meatloaves to soups to casseroles. Pretty much anything that calls for chopped seasonings get some seasoning blend. :) Also, if you do a search for “seasoning blend” here on my site, you will see many recipes that I put it in

  2. Nice way to get a jump start on soups and stews…thanks for sharing!

  3. This is a great idea! I chop onions and freeze them flat in a ziploc bag. When needed I just break off a portion and add them to the recipe. Now, with your seasoning blend, no more wasted peppers and another time saver. Thanks so much!

  4. GREAT TIP! I came to this post from the slow cooker whole fryer recipe. Thanks again for linking up and sharing this great tip!
