I am going to start off by talking about my goals. Many of you said you are coming into this a bit late. I suggest just starting now and making your goals a bit smaller so that you can finish when we do.
OK on to my 12 Weeks to Goal blogging goals and how they are going:
Update on my Blogging Goals:
GOAL NUMBER ONE: Increase Twitter Followers to 12,250 for @momof3boys3702 and 5,300 for @Deals_3BD – As of 01/25/2012 I am at 10,863 for main and 4,198 for deals!
GOAL NUMBER TWO: Increase Newsletter Subscribers to 800 – As of 01/25/2012 I am at 832! I reached my goal!! Whoo hoo!!
GOAL NUMBER THREE: Add pictures to 10 of the 37 recipe posts missing images As of 01/25/2012 , I am at 33, and now have a few more photos. I will be spending this week trying to get some more pictures and updating the posts.
GOAL NUMBER FOUR: Complete A-Z Alphabet Book through K! As of 01/25/2012 I am at the same as last week 1/2 way through G. I did do some research on it, but that is as far as I got!
On to what to do about Google Friend Connect:
If you were on blogger and then moved to WordPress, chances are you brought your Google Friend Connect followers with you. If you haven’t heard the news yet, you are going to be really upset… in March of this year, Google will be shutting down GFC on all non-blogger blogs! Yes, really. So, what do you do with your thousands of blog followers that are going to literally disappear over night?
Guess what, there is not much you can do except beg your readers to move to something else. Either follow your blog via RSS or sign up for your newsletter. I have been begging since December and out of the 2000+ followers on this site and 500+ on my deal site, only about 400 have actually moved over. So now what? Will my traffic significantly drop come March? Yes, this is a major worry for me. I have worked so hard to get my readers and I don’t want to lose them just because of Google’s flights of Fancy!
So, what do we do? We should start a petition that Google will allow us to continue to use Google Friend Connect OR allow us to access the reader emails so that we can move them to something new!
As a reader, what is your opinion on Google Friend Connect leaving us? As a Blogger, what do you think?

I like how specific your goals are. Congrats on your progress thus far!
I do add Google friends connect when I can …. however there is a way to switch over that many readers may not know about. Sometimes, okay – frequently when I push the RSS feed button I get gobbledeegoop symbols. So, what I do now is this: Google reader which I use for all my feeds has a nifty subscribe button in the upper left. It is red. Clicking on that will allow you to enter the url of the feed you want to follow or subscribe to.
For instance, the way I started following you was to go to your blog and do a Ctrl C copy of the header “3boysandadon.com”, went back to reader and did a Ctrl V paste and then pushed subscribe. Voila. I am now reading your blog.
I hope that make sense and helps to move followers over. I didn’t know about the change. Anyone switching should do what you did and post their move and that they need to switch.
@HighDesertGal Great info! Thanks for sharing! The other day I hit the 300 blog follow limit on Blogger. I was not impressed! I had no idea that their was even a limit to the amount of blogger you could follow through GFC. I’ve been making my way through subscribing to the 300 blogs I already follow through GFC via RSS (Google Reader) but was wondering how to subscribe when they don’t have the feed URL anywhere on some blogs! Now I know how to do it manually! Thanks so much again:)
Glad I could help someone. Usually it’s me that needs help ; )
Good for you for having goals and sticking to them.
I’m new to the game so I really appreciat eyour view on GFC.
You have a follower/subscriber in me!
I have reached one of my goals and switching over from a free wordpress.com to a self-hosted .com site. I am sooo happy!! Thanks for the challenge. It has made me write down the goals and actually focus on getting them done little by little.
I still am learning the ropes and don’t understand a lot of the tech aspects of blogging. BUT I am getting there
Thanks again!
I’m thrilled that GFC is going bye bye. It never seemed to “remember” that I joined a blog. What a pain to have to keep rejoining to make sure you’re joined. The “Add to Circles” mechanism is more reliable and easier.
Well I moved from Blogger to WP last week and my RSS subscribers dropped significantly. I did all the correct things in Blogger, Friend Connect, and Feedburner but still after a week, they are gone. I went from 1100 to 300! It is crazy.
Now with GFC ending for non Blogger blogs, I am unhappy. In my upcoming giveaways, I think I am going to offer 10 entries for subscribing via RSS – maybe 25 (LOL!).
I am visiting today from WFMW, and so glad I did. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Hello,
Congrats on your readers #
you might not want to carry anything Google over anywhere .. !
Google is REALLY making some changes with their privacy & I for one am changing ALL my internet stuff away from ANYTHING that is attached to Google ! This is not a joke , they are getting really invasive.. The worst part of many ,is that there is NO chance for opting out .
so I would encourage readers to sign up for the newsletter..
I know i am going to UNSUB from ALL things GOOGLE !
Don’t ever sign into anything with your google password. after, like with youtube, you are FOREVER stuck with it.. & they will know where you go & who you talk too.. Not sure what will happen when I delete my gmail account?
Lisa
Isn’t the e-mail the key to keeping connected? I was hacked again and lost all my information on my rj_angel_account and now I am glad I had two. Even with changing passwords these people can manipulate things just because they can. I am glad I haven’t gotten into more on my blog in the making yet because of all these changes. I think a petition is great if it will help!
