ASL Signing Families Review & Giveaway

400x100nationalparenting2 ASL Signing Families Review & Giveaway

In high school, I had the opportunity to take American Sign Language as my foreign language requirement instead of the usual Spanish or French. I loved every second of it, and even wanted to become an interpreter after graduation. The language appeals to me so much because it’s so visual — it’s truly like a dance! Sometimes I felt like I got a clearer understanding of someone’s feelings when they would sign to me as opposed to just speaking. It really is a beautiful language!

Once I had children, I was so excited to start teaching them sign as infants. My daughter knew “please” and “more”, and this saved us from so much frustration during meal times. Once my son was born, I taught him a few signs as well. The only problem is that parents who aren’t fortunate enough to know sign need some resources to help them learn the language.

Signing Families is a fantastic system that helps you, the parent, work with your child to develop their sign vocabulary. What I liked about this DVD and chart system was that it was really tri-lingual. It teaches a word in Spanish, English, and ASL. I received the Baby, Toddler, and Preschool Sign Language DVD. Instead of just showing you the signs, the DVD teaches you the meaning behind the sign so that you can retain as much of it as possible. Included are sign charts that cover basic signs in ASL, English, and Spanish that is perfect for the fridge, daycare providers, or grandparents in order to encourage them to sign to your baby as well. Beginning with the basics, ASL Signing Families is perfect for any parent or caregiver who is wanting to learn a basic knowledge of American Sign Language!
