***UPDATE at 10:00 PM – I have heard that some people feel I am putting down a certain huge follower giveaway. I am so sorry if I came across that way. It was not my intention and I have learned that I am horrible at getting my typed words to come across the way I mean them. I want everyone out there to understand that I join the big follower giveaway and do well with it. I think the girls do a FABULOUS job promoting it. BUT, I think many of us would love to see some of these on a smaller scale, too!! So, I am doing one – since, well I don’t have enough to do. LOL! I consider the three girls in question my friends and do NOT want them hurt or thinking I am bashing them. Nor, do I want anyone else thinking I am bashing them. That is not my intention AT ALL. Hey, what is it they say? The best form of flattery is imitation?
I have participated in several follower growing giveaways as a sponsor and actually enjoyed it, but now they are getting so big that:
- #1 - I don’t get as many new followers because the contestants give up before getting to my name on the list
- #2 - I give up on playing to win before getting in all the entries! In fact, the last one I played in, I followed over 50 new Google Friend Connect people and hadn’t even reached my own name in the list! Since I have a limited amount of time, it took me 3 days to get to just those. Consequently, I gave up and had never even gotten around to the other 6 forms! Wonder how many other people only followed the first few?
So, I want to have my own follower blog hop and I am setting down restrictions AND making it a bit easier to enter. I am also making it better for the sponsors. No, we won’t be giving away 1000 dollars, but I am sure many of my readers would love to win 200 dollars! The Spread Your Love Giveaway will begin on May 17th and run through May 31st! I will be accepting participants through May 10th. The first 13 people to sign up (and pay) will be hosts! Why 13? Because, I am only allowing 15 participants in the Spread The Love Giveaway and 1 is my blog 3 Boys and a Dog and the other is my business Blog Print Media.
The good news, though, is that if more than 13 sign up, I will be doing the Spread The Love Giveaway again at the end of this one! So, you can only win 200 dollars this go around, but you could win 200 dollars every 2 weeks depending on the number of people to sign up for the Spread The Love Giveaway by May 10th! Nice, huh?
So, how do you get to participate and increase your followers?
Each of the 15 participants can enter three social media links for 20 dollars and if you wanted more then you could add an addition at 10 dollars per social media thing.
The extra $$ would be used to cover the PayPal fees, banner costs, and ad costs.

We will be allowing the winner to choose a 200 dollar Paypal deposit OR 200 amazon gift certificate OR 200 Amex card. This way, even those without PayPal would be able to win. I understand that not every one of my readers has a PayPal account.
All of the 15 participants will be hosts! It means less traffic to the “hosting” blog (me) since contestants will be able to enter at any participant’s site, but it will also mean more participants since more people will be advertising it on their blog. We will all have a central form that gets filled out.

Thanks for the heads up. I don’t often participate in these types of giveaways primarily due to time constraints but I do regularly promote them for bloggers I trust like you. I have two suggestions for anyone who is doing these kinds of spread the love events.
Many people are easily overwhelmed so I believe that simpler events would work much better, especially if you already know the most serious bloggers in your niche. The fewer actions your less experienced readers have to take the more likely they are to participate and not feel overwhelmed.
While cash can come in handy, past experience has made me aware that prizes in many popular “contests” have not been awarded fairly. That has made me less likely to promote contests unless I know the ethical standards of the people behind them. The randomizer thing that many giveaway bloggers use that ensures a truly random selection is a good idea. I’m not clear on how this one works, but I trust Kelli.

For my giveaways, I now use a plug in that is AWESOME! I can’t even see the list of comments, it just does it and spits out the comment as well as the email addy. NICE! If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
