National Cleaning Week: Start With The Basics

natcleaningweek

This week, we will be having National Cleaning Week at 3 Boys and a Dog.  I don’t have giveaways or guests scheduled, just some tasks for you to take me up on or not. 🙂  I am going to e doing them, so you won’t be alone.

Today is Sunday, that used to mean a day of rest.  In this day and age, it usually means half the day at Church, then the other half of the day trying to get the house into some semblance of order before the busy work week begins again.  So, why not start our day with some simple cleaning basics to prepare for the rest of our week.

I have a few odd cleaning tasks for you to do today:

1.  Collect boxes! Go to your local grocery store (or look around your house) for several big boxes.  If we do this right, you should be able to have a yard sale on Saturday.  (Actually, my mother-in-law is having a yard sale this Friday and I have been told that I can bring stuff to it, so this couldn’t have been a better time.)

2.  Tackle all the dirty laundry! As you wash the laundry, put the ratty clothes straight in the trash or the mend bin and the “too small” ones straight into a box for your yard sale.  If your laundry is really bad, this could take quite some time.  If you are down to nothing to wear, then I suggest doing the next tasks FIRST so you have a nice clean area in which to put the clean clothes as you fold them.

3.  Handle the clean clothes! Today is the perfect day to tackle the closets in your home.  Everyone is most likely at home and can easily try on clothes to check fit, like, etc.  If you haven’t worn it in 6 months, then please get rid of it!  If you have a yard sale, then the money you make from it can buy you some new clothes!

4.  As your boxes get full, close them up and set them out of the way for your yard sale this weekend.  Not planning a yard sale?  Then, go ahead and prepare to head to Goodwill on Saturday OR post your boxes on Freecycle or eBay!

That’s it!  I would love to hear how it goes for you.  Be sure to set your timer so you can tackle the laundry as soon as they are ready to be moved over or folded!
