Blogging Basics: Are People Writing About You?

Do you know when people are linking to your blog?  You should!  There is a pretty simple way of knowing if people are linking to you so that you can visit them, comment on the post, and make them feel good. This Blogging Basics post is going to walk you through it.  I had Google Alerts set up for my old blog a million years ago, but just haven’t thought about setting it up for this one (that I have had for over 2 years ROTFL).  So, today it struck me to get it set up and thought I should write a post while doing it.

The first thing you should do is sit down and decide on all the blogging terms you would like Google to search for.  For example: with my site, I don’t want to just search 3 Boys and a Dog!  I need my URL, the non-space version, my twitter handle, my name, etc.

Personally, I would set up everything you can think of for your blog.  If it turns out that you are getting way too much, you can always go back in and manage your alerts.

It is so nice to see who likes you and return the favor!  Remember, the bots want us using hyperlinks 1 for approximately every 100 words – I don’t’; know about you but I prefer those

The next step can really give you some insight into all things important to your blogging posts!  Spend a little time thinking of your most important keywords and set up Google Alerts for them.  You can choose to get a weekly message about them if daily is too much!  This gives you the ability to stay up to date with the information that is important to you and allows you to comment, link to, or even create a story from some of that information!

I even did “link up your giveaway” so I can be notified each time someone posts a giveaway linky.  This way, I can link up mine.  Smart, huh?
