Feature Friday: Harmonic Mama

Feature Friday200 Feature Friday: Harmonic MamaI have started a new weekly event here at 3 Boys and a Dog called Feature Friday.  On Fridays, I will be featuring one blogger in an easy interview style post.  I hope my readers will be encouraged to go check out this blogger, follow their blog, fan their FaceBook, and follow them on Twitter.

You thought you were busy? Today I am going to introduce you to Jennifer from Harmonic Mama – if you look in the dictionary for busy, it shows her name as the definition. icon smile Feature Friday: Harmonic Mama   Not only does she run a fun and educational blog for the crafty homeschooling bunch, but she has two children that she homeschools.  She manages to keep it all together while still working outside the home in Information Technology!  (Yeah, I am perpetually behind as it is and I don’t work outside the home!)

Although Jenn has been blogging for about five years, in October she made the decision to seriously blog and she took the step that every serious blogger should… she moved her site from Blogger to a self-hosted WordPress site! (Smart move, go girl!)

On to the interview portion:

Why did you start blogging?

I like the concept of chronicling my life and sharing in sties with others.  We all have so much to offer each other and the Internet gives us that opportunity to share and learn from each other.

Who does your blog appeal to?

I think that it appeals to people who like to craft, parents and homeschoolers.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I’m hoping to make my blog a resource to homeschoolers.  As I get more involved in homeschooling myself, the portfolio process and state requirements I hope to share those insights and help my readers.  So in the future it will become more focused.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

The biggest challenge is getting people to comment.  I have hits and readers but I am having trouble getting people to engage.

What do you love about blogging?

I love the perspective it gives me on my own life.  Writing a blog post I get to stop and really think about and assess what I am writing about.  It gives me a new way to look at things.

What do you despise about blogging?

I really dislike trying to come up with a post when I feel I have nothing to write about.  I find it extremely difficult.

Do you do product reviews and giveaways?  If yes, then please answer the following questions:

I’ve done one giveaway so far with ICaughtSanta.com.  It was nice and I’d like to do more but that’s the only one so far.  I’m working on contacting brands that I know and got advice to start reviewing items that I use that I can’t live without so those posts will be coming up soon. (oh yeah, you need a media kit. LOL! See me, wlEmoticon winkingsmile Feature Friday: Harmonic Mama)

How do you find time to blog?

I do it mostly late at night after the kids go to bed or early in the morning before work.  On the weekends I’m busy with family stuff but I usually can eek out some time then too.

To connect with Jenn:

Jennifer says her top 3 favorite posts are:

  1. 5 Life Lessons Learned from Homeschooling
  2. Apple Pie with a Kick – My Curry Apple Pie Recipe
  3. My Adventure with Creating a Safe Reusable Sandwich/Snack Bag

*Disclaimer:  Please, show them how wonderful my readers are and hop on over to their links!  Leave them some comment love and help their numbers by following them.  If you would like to see your blog featured, please drop me an email (Kelli@3boysandadog.com) with “I want to be featured on Fridays” in the subject line.  I will shoot the interview form your direction!

I hate when I get writer’s block. I know some people can schedule writing time, but if I am not inspired, then I just end up wasting my time.

I don’t get very many comments either – but when I get just one – “thanks! That was helpful” or whatever – it makes it so worthwhile – don’t you think?

I think that unless it’s a giveaway or something like that, it’s often hard to get comments on regular posts. I’m enjoying getting to know other bloggers through this Feature Friday thing, also. I’ve noticed more blogs are trying to highlight others recently and I think that’s just great.
